David, your rendition of your solo in Comfortably Numb at the Live 8 Concert, 2005, is by far the best ever, in my estimation in my history of following you through the years and I would love to celebrate this fact by inviting you to share a big fat ‘dube’ of ‘B.C. Bud’ at some point during your visit to Vancouver, May 26th, this year. In other words, I would love to share the BEST with the BEST from my era and incidentally a fellow Piscean, 20/02/1948, just under two years younger than you.

    • FEd

Has someone been booking plane tickets for David and his guitar again, to coincide with a Roger Waters concert? Wishful thinking, that.

  2. Piscesman48

I understood from researching that David is attending with Roger in Vancouver on May 26th. Is there information to the contrary?

  3. Enrico

I think some ticket agencies are mixing up The Wall, Roger Waters and David Gilmour… there are some “David Gilmour” tickets for sale for dates that are exactly the same dates as the The Wall tour ones. I believe this is as usual totally out of the control of Gilmour’s management, but the rumour is spreading and maybe they should clarify…or…is he going to play on the The Wall summer tour??? I am booking my plane tickets right now, hehehehehe.

  4. Enrico

Hehe, thanks, just kidding, it is clear that they are making a mess.

By the way, how great was seeing David on top of The Wall in London? I was there and I still ask around, as he was covered from where I was was by a huge speaker! Hehe.

  5. fernando marques andrade

I would like a response on my email if there is a scheduled concert of david gilmour somewhere on the planet. my dream is to see him playing and singing. grateful.

    • Russian

Please please please …. David Gilmour in Argentina. That’s all I wish. My 3 year old son is a huge fan!! I hope to see David playing live here.

      Sorry for my English. 🙂

      Respect and peace for all.

  6. kimberley

I also would like to know if another concert in Toronto is possible. I was there last time and it was superb, both nights. I will definitely regret that Richard Wright can only be a memory now.

  7. Piscesman48

What would be really ‘cool’ would be if the powers that be could look into a change in venue if and when David drops into British Columbia, Canada on tour. The change being coming to sunny Kelowna instead of Vancouver, because the Okanagan Valley where we reside is Canada’s answer to the Riviera, situated next to Lake Okanagan. People would flock into the valley from all points… only a 3 hour drive from Vancouver. We have a world class Airport… the strip has been enlarged to handle the big birds from Europe carrying the winter ski crowd, etc. Summertime of course would be the ideal time to tour through here. We have many great wineries, orchards and pristine beauty in the Okanagan mixed with the + 30 – 40 temps in July and August.

If those who arrange David’s world tours are reading this, please consider us to visit, you won’t regret it.

  8. Strat Player

    David,

Words cannot describe what your music and guitar work means to me. I’ve been a fan of the Floyd and your music for as long as I can remember. As a Strat player, your work has been and continues to be inspirational to me. These days, I find myself playing older gems such as: Arnold Layne, Green is the Colour, Cymbaline and Fat Old Sun, just to mention a few. I would love to see you play Green is the Colour or Cymbaline on your next tour.

I love the way you promoted Syd’s work on your last tour and I was truly saddened by the loss of Rick. He is sadly missed by all of us.

  9. Ricardo

All Brasilian People wait for you to play in Brazil (Bahia – Rio and SP). Your music. it’s wonderful David!! Congratulations!!

    • Marisa

We need to see your show!!!! Please, come to sing in Brazil, at Rio, as soon as possible.

  10. tim-c

    Hey Fed

Have you noticed that the Chat Countdown feature on the main page speaks with forked tongue and doesn’t show the next chat date?

    • FEd

Well, the reason is that I’m still incapacitated, and one-handed typing is a real bitch, but I will endeavour to attend the chat scheduled for tomorrow and foolishly promised some time ago on the calendar, and will again most probably host the session in a somewhat half-hearted, apologetic manner which, naturally, you must excuse. And I will suffer for it afterwards if it’s necessary to type too much, but I don’t want anyone to feel bad, you understand.

You now have a countdown-thingy confirming that this chat will go ahead. Thank you for noticing it; it’s one of my favourite things.

    • tim-c

I will try and suppress my urge to shower you with (unwanted) sympathy and we’ll try and be gentle with you and ask only yes/no questions.

I assumed that the countdown feature was automated, not crank-handled!

  11. Strat Player

I just love “Where We Start”!! It’s such a gem! I played this song to my wife and she just loves it!

David, you must have one more album up your sleeve before retiring??? Right???

  12. Our cat named Floyd

    David,

It’s been a bit too long not hearing you play live in Philly. Please do a tour. I would love nothing more than to take my wife to her first Gilmour or Floyd concert as a gift, especially since I’ve seen you play more than a dozen times and enjoyed every note.

    Warmest regards,
    Our cat named Floyd

  13. Tina

    Oi,

O Brasil te espera de braços abertos. Não fique só no Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo, venha para Porto Alegre. Uma cidade que não tem só o nome bonito.

    Aguardamos tua visita
    abraços
    Tina(fâ)

  14. Rich

    Sir,

I’m a 52yr. old Male….I’ve been going to almost all your shows in the NEW YORK (USA) area every time you come to town. Your music is awesome, from the 70s when I was a kid, to to date, now a grown man… I believe that this time in our lives is the BEST. You are truly the Best Performer I know and Love…

Can you please tell me if and when you will once again be in the USA, hopefully the NEW YORK area?? You’re like a drug and I truly need it at least one more time in my lifetime….!!

I’m sure you hear this everyday but I have to say it anyway…

“Thank you in advance, your #1 fan”
    Rich

    …..God Bless You, My Brother!!!!!!!!

  15. Kim

Thank you David Gilmour for sharing your soul with us through your music for all these years. Whether it be a Pink Floyd tune or a David Gilmour special, I truly get lost in your music.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the joy you bring to my soul. Please, play on Mr. Gilmour!

  16. Serdar

When I listened to the guitar solo of Comfortably Numb for the first time when The Wall album was released, I immediately fell in love with it without actually knowing that was played by David Gilmour. During all that years, my respect for David’s music grew tremendously to the extent that last year I began taking electric guitar lessons at the age of 47 dreaming of sharing the same stage with David for a Comfortably Numb solo. I hope it comes true some sunny day. 🙂

  17. BellaG

There are a few comments from fellow Canadians about David Gilmour events and this might be a helpful clarification.

Canada has its very own David Gilmour, a novelist and TV journalist who lives in Toronto. His latest novel, The Perfect Order of Things, was released in November 2011 and David has been doing the usual rounds of readings and promotions. Maybe the advertising of his events has caused some confusion?

Canadian David Gilmour is used to the muddle and deals with humour and charm at the odd disappointed attendees. :))

  18. gabriela

    Dear David,

We are a middle aged couple from Bucharest, Romania. We have no kids, no big achievements in our lives, but we have Pink Floyd music. We didn’t have the chance to see a Pink Floyd show before ’89 because of the communism and after ’89 because we didn’t have the possibility to do that. Unfortunately for us (and not only for us), there will be no Pink Floyd shows anymore, but the music continues to be the best music ever.

Let us tell you a story regarding your music: we’ve been to United States via Paris and we always have with us Pink Floyd original CDs. On our way back home, our luggage was lost in Paris. We received them after a week and the only thing that was missing from them were Pink Floyd CDs. We were very upset, but that’s life, Pink Floyd fans are everywhere!

Our biggest wish is to meet you, just during a cup of tea and an autograph. We know that this is something like “check the sea with a finger”, but… never say never!

    Yours sincerely,
    Gabriela & Dan

    Hello Fed (and bloggers),

    I’m sorry, I can’t make chat today, I won’t be free until at least 3 o’clock.

I’ll be sorry to miss all the tomfoolery that will probably go on because it is your birthday tomorrow, the questions about what you will do, what presents you’d like, how old you’ll be and of course, everyone will ask. :))

I’ll pop in later if the party is still going on or when they’ve all revived this evening.

I do have a greeting and surprise for you tomorrow Fed. 😉

Have a really daft chat everyone.

    ash

    • FEd

Well, as you can probably imagine, all I want is world peace, a general election and maybe a Fiat 500 in Seventies colours. (You dig?) I don’t like to ask for too much, obviously. Instead I’ll probably get at least one well-meaning but, let’s face it, entirely thoughtless gift (of convenience) that troubles my conscience and then feel bad about having ungrateful thoughts because I wasn’t brought up to be that way, and finish off by eating too much Indian food and possibly drinking too much beer. Or not enough beer, which can be just as bad sometimes. German beer, probably, but I haven’t decided yet. Why so many decisions?

      C’est la vie.

      Birthdays are rubbish.

  20. Pavlov

Oh FEd, you don’t ask for much. Sadly, world peace will not happen in our lifetime or even in the lifetime of three generations from now. A general election perhaps, a Fiat 500 (aren’t they just too cute?) possibly, and one always has to have at least one unmindful gift if only to keep us slightly balanced.

  21. ash

Oh dear Fed, I just read your ‘Child Abuse’ post. 🙁 You are really determined to play down your Birthday eh?

In that case, there will be no Kissing or Hugging like last year. . .

    But. . . I did get you a Guitar!!!

    ash 🙁

  22. Pavlov

And I too, feel guilty for not sending you anything. Since we’re going ‘international’, how about a South African brew (proudly sold in the UK to ex-pats)? So cheers.

  23. Tom B

Belated Birthday wishes FEd. Still rocking it out I see. Heavy article on child abuse – been through this in Ireland of late with the clergy cover ups, shame on them. Everybody is entitled to justice, but it’s out of reach for some.

Beer and chocolate, not a good combo, wake with lashings of guilt in the morning, just stick to beer. Hope you had a nice day!

  24. grafitt

David, e Brasil? quando vem tocar aqui, apesar que teve rumores de você no Brasil no começo de dezembro em que estava passeando em Porto De Galinhas em Pernambuco, é verdade?

  25. Carolyn

Hello all. This is my first time posting a comment on the blog, although I’ve been reading it for a while now.

I have loved PF music and especially David Gilmour for longer than I want to admit. I’m a bit intimidated to write on the blog after reading the very expressive writing of you all. Just wanted you to know I’m here and “listening” and maybe soon, after giving quite some thought to it, I’ll find the nerve to write down some of my favorite thoughts about the greatest music that touched my soul to share with you.

Happy New Year to you all, may it be one of peace. (Yes, I’m still hopeful after all these years.)

  26. Carolyn

Once again it’s 3 am US time, and here I am with my thoughts. FEd, I hope you can help me. I found myself turning on the TV at 2 am to check out my cable music channel. Amazingly, a Pink Floyd documentary was on. Oh Joy, now I’m thankful that I have insomnia! Here is my favorite band, all individually talking about “the making of” the record. This time it’s Dark Side that they are discussing. And the music is woven strategically through it all.

Now I know what I want for my “library”, it’s copies of these available documentaries if there are any. This was a “first” for me, seeing and hearing this documentary and it made me so happy. Are they available on DVD? Where can I get them? Are there more, beside Dark Side and Shine On? Those are the two I’ve caught on TV. Can anyone help me?

    • FEd

From the popular ‘Classic Albums’ television series, The Making of The Dark Side of the Moon is certainly available on DVD, as is a similar offering concerning Wish You Were Here. Brought to you by Eagle Rock Entertainment; The Making of The Dark Side of the Moon was released on DVD in 2003 and The Story of Wish You Were Here, which is also available on Blu-ray, was released just last year.

  27. adriano

David, please come to BRAZIL!!! Don’t forget us!! BRAZIL!!! We want to listen to you!! We are waiting for you!!

    Thanks.

  28. Groovyjuve

It’s a little after 3 am here in Mississippi, US and I’m wide awake watching Pulse once again and seeing all these requests for David to come to this and that place. It’s a bit overwhelming to think of traveling to all these places! I would LOVE to see David in concert, but I am realizing that with age, I’m almost 57, priorities change. I have an amazing son and daughter in law and the two most precious grand babies anyone could wish for. I have become much more of a homebody over the years and don’t think I’d be dashing off to Haiti in a few hours on the last flight out for a treasure hunt like I did when I was 21! Don’t get me wrong, it was an adventure, but I’m not too sure about how I’d feel after sleeping on the wooden boat deck under the sail!

I’m not trying to presume to speak for David or anyone, but I’m just trying to present a different view on things.

Meanwhile, I’ll just keep adding to my “Immersion Fund” and kick up one heel at a time rather than both!

  29. Donald Smith

    David-

Out of my 45 years it’s only been in the last 5-6 years I’ve really listened closely to your solo music as well as Pink Floyd’s. As music means different things to different people in how they relate and digest what they are hearing and feeling- Your music has really touched me in this part of my life, I thank you for that!

Now to jump into the mix with everyone else, if you do a tour as soooo many of us want could you consider the Pacific NW of the United States? You so still have it David, keep shining that light!

Cheers from the Great Pacific NW,
    Don

  30. Carolyn

Missed everyone during this month’s chats. Am looking forward to March and being present. (Would put a little sad face emoticon here if I knew how on my computer, maybe Tim can help me with this.)

  31. Carolyn

Can it really be true? Dark Side Of The Moon is 40 this week! (and still as relevant as ever.) 🙂 This LUNATIC is wondering about TIME, where did it go?

Congratulations David, Roger, Nick and Richard. You created a masterpiece. Also, thanks to everyone involved, I appreciate the album more and more as I age.

  32. Carolyn

Happy Birthday to Liam, have seen some of the great artwork in the gallery that your father has done. Happy, Happy Birthday. 🙂

  33. Bernard la Lys (Bernd van der List)

dear dave…(little grey man)…many greetings from here to your birthday…3 hours ago i be back from france…so the greetings are late…but better late than never…and greetings to the white prince also…shine on…

  34. Aleksei Belov

    Hello.

    Dear David.

My name is Alex, I live in Russia in the city of Tyumen. I am 22 years old. I would like to tell you thank you for your creativity. I am 6 years an ardent fan of the band Pink Floyd. And it is your creativity. Your music is for me something more in my life. I listen to it when alone, when I have something to think about it. I grew up on this music. And it helped me a lot in life.

I had a childhood most cherished dream, to go to your live performance. But unfortunately it is not feasible.

I wish you long life and creativity. Good luck to you.

I hope you have personally read my message.

    Goodbye.

P.S. Sorry for the mistake in the text. Used a translator.

  35. Carolyn

May I be one of the first to wish you a Happy Birthday Lorraine, hope it is filled with all the love you can hold. 🙂

  36. Carolyn

    Groovyjuve,

Happy Birthday. I want you to know how much I enjoy the writings you post on the blog. You sound like a real David Gilmour/Pink Floyd fan to me, and that makes me a real fan of yours. 🙂

Hope you have a wonderful birthday and many, many more. 🙂

  37. Carolyn

Soooo many birthdays in March. 🙂 Happy Belated Birthday on the 21st to Dieter, sorry Dieter. Won’t happen again. 🙁

  38. Carolyn

Andrew, you share a birthday with Pavlov on the 29th. Had you been in the chat room today, I could have wished you a Happy Birthday in “person”. 🙂 Maybe next time.

Pavlov, once again, Birthday Greetings of the warmest kind. 🙂 Going to have to learn a lot about music to keep up with you. 🙂

  39. Carolyn

Well I haven’t been in the chat room since the beginning of the month and I really miss you all. By “you all” I mean you FEd and all the “usual suspects” that frequent the chat room. 🙂 You know who your are. I feel like I’ve missed an important lunch date with an old friend.

Hopefully I will not have appointments in May that conflict with chat times, and I can get caught up on all the gossip, giggles, and enlightening information. But Proust, really? 🙁 I wouldn’t have had much to say about that anyway, but probably would have learned something.

I wish I could give you all a hug, if you’re reading this, consider yourself “hugged”. 🙂 “See” you all soon.

  40. Carolyn

Happy Birthday to all of my fellow June birthday mates and especially those Geminis.

  41. Carolyn

Thank you Ash, I did have a lovely day. Sorry I got this post late, having computer problems. 🙁 Hope to get it fixed soon.

  42. Carolyn

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA ♥ And to those not yet listed on the July calander, Happy Birthday to you too. 🙂

  43. Alison

Hi guys, I’m a newbie on here – do you ever have chat sessions in the evenings??? I work full time, and notice that all the chat sessions I have seen are in the afternoons……..would love to join in.

    • FEd

Often people are still chatting into the evening, would you believe? They mostly just pop back later at a pre-arranged time, as that’s more convenient (obviously for North America, for example, as well). You can see who is in the chatroom at any time by visiting the chat page.

Hope to see you soon. A warm welcome is guaranteed. 🙂

I should remind everyone at this point that David does not visit the chatroom, however.

  44. Pavlov

    Happy π Day Michèle 🙂 …

“The town of Princeton, New Jersey, hosts numerous events in a combined celebration of Pi Day and Albert Einstein’s birthday, which is also March 14. Einstein lived in Princeton for more than twenty years while working at the Institute for Advanced Study. In addition to pie eating and recitation contests, there is an annual Einstein look-alike contest.”

    • Michèle

      Wow, thank you.

You know I love π (as does Kate, apparently), but not enough to die for it, though 😉 – unlike Achimedes…

I have been told that he was drawing figures in the dust to determine a geometry proof of the value of π when a Roman soldier ordered him to come with him. Archimedes was so absorbed in his work that he replied, “Don’t disturb my circles!” The soldier was so furious that he pulled out his sword and killed him.

I don’t know if this ‘tale’ is true, but if so, what a miserable death for a Maths genius… 😉

  45. Michèle

Today – April 15th – marks the 25th Anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy.

It sure will be a very emotional day at Anfield.

I hope the new inquests that are being held will f-i-n-a-l-l-y deliver justice for the 96.

  46. Michèle

A chat scheduled during France vs Germany quarterfinal game? Bad FEd!

I forgive you if you cheer for France. 😉

    • FEd

Oh dear, I hadn’t realised. This World Cup has confused me so and I’ve still not seen a full game, would you believe?

      May the best team win.

  47. Pavlov

Ahem, ahem! Happy Birthday to ‘you know who’ 🙂 for October 4!!! ♥♥♥

♫ For FEd’s a jolly good fellow, for FEd’s a jolly good fellow
For FEd’s a jolly good fellow (pause), and so say all of us
And so say all of us, and so say all of us
For FEd’s a jolly good fellow, for FEd’s a jolly good fellow
For FEd’s a jolly good fellow (pause), and so say all of us! ♫

Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray!

  48. Pavlov

    Happy Birthday Tim …

Please pretend these are candles. 😉

    iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  49. Denise

I’ve got my tickets for 23rd September at RAH. Can’t wait to see David, whooooooooo.

    I love everybody. x x x x x x

  50. Wullie

Roll on 3rd October, last night at the Albert Hall. Travelling from Fife in Scotland.

  51. Juan Carlos

We are many, many, who are waiting for what seems like a dream of many years, is finally a reality. See David on an Argentine scenario. Hopefully we can soon celebrate.

  52. Michèle

I feel sorry for Rafa (seven months in charge, it’s not enough), but good luck Zizou, you’re facing a crazy challenge!

    • FEd

His appointment should please their fickle fans, if only for a few months until the next high profile signing, I guess.

(I still love you more, Rafa.)

  53. Michèle

Remembering the 700,000 (some say 900,000) Franco-German casualties who died or were wounded in horrible conditions at the terrible Battle of Verdun which began exactly 100 years ago today, 21st February and lasted more than 300 days.

Can we only imagine what they were all enduring in the trenches?

  54. Hannouresk

Maybe we should memorise Oct. the 9th – the Desert Trip Festival would be a nice oppurtunity for Roger Waters to invite David Gilmour to be a guest at his gig.

  55. Gilmour Fan

    Hello FEd und fans.

    David Gilmour Live in Polen.

  56. SilverCheek

Will be traveling on Friday and not able to make the chat. Give my regards to everyone, FEd.

  57. chytel

    cher david,

tu est 30 ans de ma vie et toujours dans mon cœur; le 23 juillet 2016 je viens te voir avec un ami qui est malade.

pour cella peut tu nous jouer marooned?

    merci a toi.

  58. GR

I’ve tickets for the 28 and 29 concerts at the Albert Hall. I’m from Argentina and I can not attend the concerts. Does anyone know if I can sell them?

  59. Michèle

Please, sorry to annoy you, but, isn’t there a problem with the chatroom countdown? Just now, it says ‘The chatroom opens in 12 days, 16 hours, 56 minutes’. It’s not at all what I see on the calendar page.

  60. Hannouresk

Oh no no no! Not again, why have I to miss the chatroom meetings these days? 🙁 Send my greetings to everyone, FEd, and have a good conversation… Hope I can join you soon in the next weeks.

PS: I like the David Crosby album, sometimes is a guitar and a voice all you need.

  61. Bruce Toogood

Merry Christmas David! Still dream of the night I saw you at Royal Albert Hall in 2015. The best experience of my life by far. I hope you will enjoy a nice rest and then hopefully begin a new tour. I would return to see you in London in a heartbeat but would travel almost anywhere to watch you play again. You are amazing. God bless you forever!
