Pompeii teasers

You might have seen the first videos from David’s upcoming Live at Pompeii as they’ve been popping up on YouTube, Facebook and of course, on DavidGilmour.com. If you haven’t, under LISTEN you will find several – previews, trailers, excerpts – with plenty more to come to whet your appetite shortly. Let us know what you think of them.

Live at Pompeii is released in various formats on 29th September and will be available for one night only in cinemas worldwide on 13th September (as well as the 14th and 15th in select Italian venues).

Hope you’re looking forward to it.

  1. Blimey Fed,

I’m not sure l can wait any longer. These trailers are evoking such memories from the night l attended. The filming of the concert looks stunning.

On another subject l would just like to say a few weeks ago I made the effort to go along to Nick Mason’s charity open garden event that he held at his house. When we arrived l didn’t think for one moment I would be lucky enough to meet the man himself but I did. It was relatively quite when we arrived and whilst waiting for my daughter to finish using the toilet which was in the same room as Nick’s swimming pool, out of the house he came. After 30 years of loving the Floyd and anything David Gilmour here I was standing next to Nick Mason.

After brief chat and photo opportunity I can safely say it was a pleasure to meet him. True gent.

    Steve

    1. I was lucky enough to meet Nick at the same event. He happily signed my deluxe copy of The Endless River. Just need to meet David one of these days and, hopefully, he might sign it too!

Also went with my family to see the Floyd exhibition at the V&A at the weekend. We all thought it was great and it was quite something to see David’s guitars up close. The only two extra things I think they should consider for when the exhibition goes on the road is a full sized circular screen and inflatable pig.

Very nice Pompeii clips on David’s website and YouTube page.

  2. Teasers are lovely. Great rendition of ‘Rattle That Lock’, band at the top.

By the way, how many smiles on that stage?

  3. They sound fantastic.

Especially One of These Days, what a tone! The sheer beauty of the setting is still taking me aback too.

    Cannot wait for 29th September.

  4. Teasers? Do we need teasers? I don’t think so. 😉 We need the real thing…

Time’s passing too fast for my taste, half of my vacation’s gone already…

Best regards from Kalamos, Pilion, a rather Floydish region in Greece,

    Taki

  5. I appear to be holidaying in a country that doesn’t have a single screen showing on the 13th. Not sure I’ve planned this quite right. 🙁

  6. This show was absolutely fantastic, and those videos brings tears in my eyes… I was so sad I didn’t manage to be in Pompeii, and I am more sad as the time goes by… such a historical moment…

  7. Looking forward to it? Are you KIDDING? 🙂

David and the band look and sound fantastic, it is going to be a multi-sensory feast…..

  8. Live at Pompeii … is already in my house and in my mind.

I have booked the ticket for cinema and also the Deluxe box too…… so now is only a matter of TIME!!!!

  9. Looks and sounds so beautiful. And to think that I was really there …! 😀 Can’t wait to revisit. Thank you, you lovely, brilliant Mr. Gilmour!

  10. Hello FEd,

Happy Cinema in Bucharest Romania lists the concert movie in its program for 2 nights – 13 and 16 September 2017. They also sell tickets as we speak. Is this listing genuine and authorized? David’s website only lists Baneasa Grand Entertainment at this time so I don’t know what to think…

    1. I’ll get back to you on that as soon as I know more, Stefan. As it’s not going out live, as such, cinemas are able to dictate the start time that best suits, and of course some (not all) Italian cinemas have it showing for three nights, so this wouldn’t surprise me if demand for tickets has been considerable. More soon.

  11. Hello FEd

Nice one man, having all the clips and the EPK. Great to see a little bit behind the scenes and hear Mr Gilmour speaking even he thought ‘Pompeii? No chance.’ 😀 I hope Mr Gilmour will be doing more interviews and speaking about it all soon. I missed him meeting the Mayor in Pompeii not by much. 🙁

Wait till the rest of the world see this show, they don’t know what’s gonna hit them. Unbelievable.

    Great Work.

  12. Dunno what to say really, it’s hard to believe David is still putting on such amazing shows and still producing such an amazing sound. It’s timeless really. I’m beginning to think Pompeii might even eclipse the amazing P.U.L.S.E as my favourite DVD.

  13. Hi F’Ed. A random thought at silly o’clock in the morning….

I’ve been posting to the blog since early 2006, changing email and hence site ’emoji’ about 3 years ago, and I recently tried to find an old past of mine in the archive. And I failed!!

But it got me thinking that our blog contributions are the closest to a diary that many of us might have written. Our views on certain issues over the last 11 and a bit years.

If it was possible to search the archive on name as well as subject or date it might be interesting… Is there a view on this e.g. might it get tricky with ‘personal information’ etc regardless of the feasibility?

  14. Looks and sounds fabulous. Can’t wait but have to wait…

In the meantime, I’ve been visiting my local amphitheater (Kelvingrove Bandstand), we saw Brian Wilson there on Thursday night. Absolute belter of a set with loads of Beach Boys standards and the whole of Pet Sounds played in order. Matt Jardine (Al’s boy) was outstanding on vocals. And it was worth the ticket price alone to hear Brian Wilson singing ‘God Only Knows’. Don’t think there was a dry eye in the house when he ended with “Love and Mercy’.

    Tom Jones tonight. 😀

  15. Hi Fed

Not Exactly a Pompeii Teaser I’m sure there will be some insider info on the subject from a man who was there. 😀

I’ve found out that Guy Pratt’s upcoming Edinburgh Festival (55 minute show) “Inglourious Basstard” on Aug 14-20, 22-27 at Frankenstein Pub (Venue 304) 17:00 is Free!

    (Age restriction 16+)

I seen it advertised, thought I’d see if there was any tickets left and noticed it’s free, so a nice heads up to anyone in that Area in those dates, if you’re a David Gilmour/Pink Floyd Fan you don’t want to miss this. I think it will be a case of 1st come, 1st served and expect there will be a lot of “Scottish Floyders” there. 😀

I might try go so if any Chatroom Irregulars are attending I could maybe meet you up for a pint and a chat. 🙂

  16. The Teasers are very nice. Reminds me of that magical night that I feel so lucky to have been able to witness. Thank you so much FEd, for your involvement for us (bloggers) being able to obtain tickets. I will never forget that night!!

    1. I’m just happy that so many of you could be there. It’s going to be a really lovely keepsake to help remember a special couple of nights in a very special place.

  17. Hey FEd & Fellow Bloggers~

When I was North, being by my brothers side, I saw billboards advertising Pompeii. But it was not for the David Gilmour Pompeii. It was for the science museum in the city regarding an exhibit of the disaster.

David’s Pompeii is playing in that city but not in my area. That would be the closest place it will be playing. After all that has happened this summer what little funds I have are depleted. So I will wait for the DVD/CD.

I will make one more trip North after the funeral this week. It will be for the eclipse. That will be an experience.

Then I will need to save so I can visit family up there this winter as it is important to visit people while they are here.

Fortunately I have always done so.

I am fortunate I saw David in concert. I will forever cherish the times I have seen him.

Also saw something regarding P.U.L.S.E on the internet. The clip was fabulous. Had an owl. I love owls, all birds. And we know how good P.U.L.S.E is. So hoping there is a DVD/CD soon.

I enjoy the CDs in the set as they are good company as I cruise North or South over mountains. At home it is fun to watch the videos.

This summer is slipping away quickly yet time is standing still.

It seems I wait for something, but yet nothing.

Time is precious, oh so precious. Then there is none…

    Take care,
    Suzy

    1. Very best wishes to you and your family, Suzy.

By the way, there is indeed a P.U.L.S.E CD/DVD and I notice quite a few for sale at a reasonable price on eBay. (Other websites where people sell things they no longer want are of course available.) Details of the album can be found here.

      1. Thank you FEd for the information. I will definitely look into it.

I was hoping there was a new release of P.U.LS.E. I have the VHS format and no longer have a VCR. But finding anything I can currently enjoy will be good.

The Pompeii release will be very special. As I am thinking it is a very special venue for David, meaningful to him to play there twice, the second with an adoring audience. Both recorded.

The teasers and trailers are spectacular.

Would have been lovely to have been able to attend. But thankful it is recorded.

        Another keepsake.

        Take care,
        Suzy

    2. Thoughts are with you Suzy … if I may, perhaps the below will offer some comfort.

[Adaptation of the so-called ‘Do Not Stand at my Grave and Weep’, attributable to to Mary E Frye, circa 1932]

I give you this one thought to keep –
I am with you still – I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awake in the morning’s hush
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone –
I am with you still – in each new dawn.

      1. Dear Pavlov~

Thank you for the beautiful poem.

After he left and I made it back to my car the song on the radio was a song he would sing to me since I was old enough to remember.

Then I pulled up on my phone map how to get to a new pedestrian bridge I could see from the hospital’s viewing deck of the city, because I wanted to walk across it. Coincidentally there is a tower that has my brother’s name that is by it.

When I went to where he is to be, there was a coyote.

Also near are my parents’ grave and there were two feathers there.

I will think of the poem often and it will help.

        Thank you.

  18. Hello FEd

A full Rattle That Lock – Live in Pompeii is on YouTube but there’s no link to it in the Listen section. 🙁

  19. I’ve been buying tickets to make my friends go. Some of them are weird about accepting a gift for no reason, so I’m scrambling to find an occasion. Oh, it’s your dog’s cousin’s birthday in August? Here have a couple of tickets to celebrate. Gonna be epic!

And you know I’ve got my fingers crossed that there will be an encore showing because this one is so smashingly successful.

Finally, saw a funny joke on Facebook today. “I get annoyed when people compare David Gilmour to God. I mean, he’s great and all, but he’s no Gilmour”.

Sometimes I love the silly Internet.

  20. Cheers FEd.

Looking forward to the screening. Busy month in Sept. Neil Young releases, Floyd Exhib, Gilmour film, Sabbath film, Gilmour releases, Sabbath box release. Not to mention, a week in English Lake District to fit in with my lovely wife.

But I got thinking. Now I’m of a certain age and though born and remaining a very proud Yorkshireman; after all, Yorkshire is God’s own county, I was brought up and spent my formative years in British West Hartlepool!

Does any member of this august circle (does anyone remember the post by one of our current or former circle who made rude and defamatory remarks and comments re the pre sale heads up FEd gave for the shows last year? What a numpty as Scottish Floyder would say) recall the Floyd gig at Crimdon Dean way way back in the very early days? Perhaps also they went to Kirklevington Country Club to see Hendrix and / or went to see Zeppelin at Peterlee’s famous venue The Argus Butterfly?

Sadly I was just a little too young at the time.

See those who are going to the Broadway Cinema in Hockley in Nottingham to see the Pompeii or Sabbath film.

PS Use the Keans Head; it’s better than Brew Dog for a much more convivial atmosphere.

    Carl

    1. When is someone going to invent this time machine we’ve heard so much about? That’s what I want to know. The gigs we’ve missed…

      1. Hi Fed; please could the same machine allow us to go back in time and miss gigs that we wish we hadn’t seen! I’ve been to one or two (especially at Wembley Arena for some reason) and, whilst some might say any live music is good, occasionally I think ‘nah’…

  21. Farewell to the rhinestone cowboy. Glen Campbell, 70 odd albums, 45 million sold. I think I once inadvertently said I wasn’t keen on music from the USA. Quite a silly comment I was probably thinking along the lines of rap. The country that gave us Motown, the blues and much, much more. Roy Orbison, too much to mention.

Anyways I found myself quite emotional listening to the above song on Radio 2 this morning.

But on a lighter note, I just ordered my Pompeii box set, Blimey as excited by this as much as when the tour was announced. Yes, I know I’m late as usual but it’s there in black and white. And I’m excited with the Photo I’m about to purchase, though my bank manager is going to flip when I tell her, or when her credit card company sends the statement, haha.

I lost another RTL CD this morning, through the same gap I lost the previous one above the car CD, so I’m going to have to buy another one in the morning when in Carlisle. God bless HMV.

Finally managed to unbox the new sun loungers after a blink of sun appeared through the gloomy grey Cumbrian skies, Floyd on, gin and tonic in hand, and Floyd christening Kat’s new sun lounger with a little tinkle classic.

    Kind regards
    Damian.

  22. Re: the Fender twitter. . .

I’m going to modify my vacuum cleaner to look and sound like a Strat. Then I won’t have to turn the hi-fi volume up so loud. . . .

(. . . my neighbours would like to send my house to the middle of nowhere when I’m cleaning, I dunno what’s wrong with them. . . )

    1. Maybe Fed could link us all up on Skype, on a night when we can all watch the DVD in harmony and judge us for the best air guitar – lol.

      Damian.

  23. Just spent 2 lovely nights in Stratford-upon-Avon. Julius Caesar and Antony and Cleopatra at the RSC. And sat their thinking what a fabulous place for David to perform at. Very small so tickets would be about 2000 grand.

    Damian

  24. The new South American teaser is amazing! Watching people grinning like the Cheshire Cat and crying because it’s just too much emotion…..I know exactly how that feels.

“A much more even split of men and women…”

I haven’t paid attention. Are more US/UK fans male than female? I introduced my husband to Gilmour. It was a condition of dating.

Guess he’ll just have to tour again so I can pay attention. 😉

  25. Hi guys!!!

Sorry I had no time to join to the Chat….. Well I’m packing all the stuff for the exhibition…. It’s incredible!!!! … the number of the box, stuff, cables, tools, trolley, plugs, potteries, little things, spare, food, etc….. etc….. etc…. necessary for this experience!!!!

My wife and I … and the dog… well finally we must go using 2 cars….no way…..

To all of you… have a nice summer vacation (if you can!!!) or a nice summer time….

    See you after September 21st

    Bye Rino(2)

  26. Hey FEd & Fellow Bloggers~

With the solar eclipse soon approaching, I want to wish clear skies for those that are going to be in totality or close.

It will be the second I will experience. The first in 1979. Therefore my last as I do not have the funds to be “an eclipse follower”. It would be a fun hobby.

But I thoroughly enjoy when I can experience such a spectacular event.

It is causing quite a sensation where I am at.

Hoping no clouds or smoke to obscure the event. To take from a famous line, “Obscured by Clouds”. Just hoping not on the 21st.

    Take care,
    Suzy

  27. Just been printing off all my gig tickets. Pompeii, Kate Rusby, Cloudbusting, and Joe Bonamassa. I’m not from Carlisle, but I’m very proud to live up here. So much happening in this wonderful part of the world, I cannot believe Joe Bonamassa is actually performing at the Sands Centre here, quite a small venue. And if you get chance check out the Old Fire Station, Carlisle.

Just to finish with a moan: toner 70 quid! What’s that all about? So if you have any spare Fed it would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards
    Damian

  28. Fed,

Any more last min theaters gonna be added for Tennessee? I have been eyeing the Franklin TN tickets to go on sale. Still says “Coming Soon” on the Gilmour site. So out of curiosity, I manually checked the AMC Theater website, and they’re already gone. Ridiculous.

  29. Heading North on a quest for the total eclipse.

The sun is a red ball in the smoky, hazy horizon as it slides behind the mountains.

I have my David CD collection. Listening to “Rattle that Lock” Track 5.

Looking forward to totality. A special birthday. It is a gift to greet another year.

    Take care,
    Suzy
