Happy Birthday!

It’s David’s birthday today.

Before you leave a suitable greeting in any tongue, so to speak, please do check out Danny Madden’s video – taken from a short film he made called Confusion Through Sand – for the ‘In Any Tongue’ track. I know it’s one of your favourites and mine from the Rattle That Lock album and tour, and something that many of you will be very pleased to be able to see again. It sure did look good up there on Mr Screen.

Happy Birthday, David. Have a good one.

  6. Happy Birthday Dave!!!

Thanks for each sound you made, that made me happy.

Your songs, voice and wonderful solos made me feel stronger in all my darkest moments when I was a teenager (walking on the streets with my old walkman). And joined me during all my life.

Today I am musician and, can I say, this is thanks to you in a big part. Thanks for all.

Have a great day with family and good friends Dave!

Waiting for your new songs always,
    Best wishes from Argentina,

  7. Happy birthday, David. 🙂

“There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.”
    ― Sophia Loren

Wishing you many more years of health, happiness, and creativity!

    Peace ‘n’ love always 🙂

As I’m typing this, you’ve just begun to sing Where We Start in my headphones. Beautiful.

  8. Written in a Carefree Mood – poem by Lu Yu

    Old man pushing seventy,
in truth he acts like a little boy,
whooping with delight when he spies some mountain fruits,
    laughing with joy, tagging after village mummers;
with the others having fun stacking tiles to make a pagoda,
standing alone staring at his image in a jardiniere pool.
Tucked under his arm, a battered book to read,
just like the time he first set off for school.

  9. Dear David, was an immense pleasure to have seen you in Argentina. For 43 years I was waiting for the presence of Pink Floyd in my country and when least expected, I happened … came his worthy representative, the voice and guitar of Pink Floyd.

Therefore we wish you a happy, very happy birthday. God wants to see you again.

    Thank you
    Carlos Gómez

Happy birthday David, I wish you happiness, continued good health and every success in all your artistic activity and in your further shows of RTL worldwide tour.

  26. Happy Birthday greetings to David.

Into his 70th year and still giving so generously of his unique talents.

2016 is sure to be another special one, In Any Tongue.

  29. Tchin et re-Tchin pour fêter un double anniversaire, David, le vôtre et celui de ‘On An Island’ (10 ans déjà…)

Merci pour votre ♪♫♫♪, vos concerts, votre sourire et pour ce blog.

♥♥♥ to you and your family.

PS: First time I’m able to watch the video, as there was no projection on Mr Screen in Orange. How powerful it is. Oh the horror, but also absurdity – not to mention futility – of war… Quel gâchis.

On a happier note, see you in Nîmes! 🙂

  30. Good morning FEd,

Danny’s video certainly accompanies and defines the poignant and remarkable “In Any Tongue” track, reminding us of the the difficult and worrying times we live in!

Still, it’s a special day and I’d like to wish Dave a very Happy Birthday on this his 70th year and I’m sure he’ll have wonderful celebrations with his friends and family; not least forgetting Polly as it’s Mother’s Day too!

    Shine on….
    John 🙂

  31. Happy birthday to a man who effected my life so much.

    Such a god given talent.

All the best David, see you September.

  32. It’s a rare thing to be 70 and at some artistic peak – maybe there’s something to be said for the slow burn.

Have a good one old chap and hope the cocktails got sorted.

  33. Happy birthday, David!

Thank you for all the music, the inspiration, the memories. Thank you for all the time you are still taking to make us happy.

  36. Happy happy birthday, David! Your music, like no one else’s, takes me on inner journeys that can’t be duplicated by others…they are intricate, satisfying and elating. I don’t know how you do it but thank you so much continuing to do it. In addition to those fantastic inner journeys, you are the reason for exciting ‘outer’ journeys: I’ll see you in Toronto and Vienna!

  53. A VERY happy birthday to Sir David Gilmour, CBE. A true virtuoso. The greatest guitarist in the history of guitar playing. I would even go so far to say that he’s the greatest artist of all time. He is the best at his craft that anyone has ever been in any craft.

It’s his birthday, but we get the present of seeing him perform. What a time to be alive!

  54. Great video and Great song. Happy birthday David Gilmour. We are so looking forward to your Toronto shows. Again good work on In Any Tongue. Thank you guys.

  55. Happy Birthday David Sir. 70 and still kickin’ butt.

  58. Happy Birthday David.

I wish you health and that there’s more good music to come out from your fingers!

I cant wait to see you again in April!

All the best in the USA and Canada!

  59. Slightly belated but nontheless heartfelt: Happy Birthday, David!

We are looking forward to Wiesbaden in July and RAH in September.

  60. A belated Happy Birthday to Sir Gilmour. Celebrated it last night by watching Jethro Tull, The Rock Opera Live with the youngster Ian Anderson hopping around the stage. He sends his regards.

  61. I expect sore heads will be cured with bacon ‘n’ eggs this morning. Or is the party still going strong? Hope so.

  62. In any tongue? Okay! Ik weet ‘t, ik weet ‘t, je verjaardag is al geweest, maar alsnog van harte gefeliciteerd, David. Dat er nog maar veel verjaardagen mogen volgen!

  63. I’ve got to take my son to see the 1975 tonight – not sure what I’m in for, but I really can’t see them being around where they are all 70.

Happy Birthday Mr Gilmour – words cannot express how much joy you’ve brought to so many for so long.

  64. A day late, but sincerest wishes for a year of health, happiness, family, friends, music and love.

    Warmly, Jill
    Northern California

  65. A belated Happy Birthday David. I hope you had a Great Day and you have some quality relaxation before the US gigs (Wish I Was Going There!).

  66. I can’t believe it is ten years since we sang Happy Birthday at The Mermaid Theatre !!! Terrifying ! 🙂

  67. Happy Belated Birthday David. See you in Toronto in a few weeks!!

    Cheers, Howard

  68. Happy belated birthday and…Pompeii? Some Italian web sites are almost sure a couple of dates in August!

  69. Happy belated Birthday David!

I hope you enjoyed a full birthday weekend and maybe even a week! Looking forward to MSG in April. Thanks for all that you do, the music you continue to make and for bestowing us with another tour! All the best wishes from across the pond in CT.

    Cheers! Rob

  70. Hi Fed. I trust you’re well, do you run the David Gilmour site on Facebook?

I’m just watching Liverpool give Man U-shited a lesson in Football.

Some Man U fans chanting about Hillsborough. Really disgusting behaviour.

I’m not ashamed to say You’ll Never Walk Alone always makes me well up with pride. A friend of mine passed away a few years ago, he was a fellow LFC supporter, while his family and friends were mainly Man U. His last request was that everyone at his funeral was to sing You’ll Never Walk Alone. That made me smile on the day.

    1. They played very well last night. Some fans always let themselves down, unfortunately. Some Liverpool fans sing about the Munich Air Disaster, which is appalling and disgraceful. Shame on them all.

David’s Facebook is nothing to do with me, by the way.

      1. Ahh well, the FB site is nowhere near as good as this site. I really do get withdrawals when nothing new appears here. It’s more addictive than my phone.

  71. Very sad news, Keith Emerson passed away last night in Santa Monica L.A. aged just 71.

    RIP Keith.

    Gary Hurley.
    London England.

    1. Yes, so sad.

The Nice joined the UK tour in 1967 featuring The Move, Pink Floyd, Amen Corner, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

  72. Hi FEd, here I’m hearing a lot of rumors about a couple of David’s concerts at Pompeii (OMG) on July 7th and 8th, with the official announcement that should be early in the next week.

    Do you know something more?

Hope that in case there will be a presale, otherwise you already know how’s going on with Italian concerts…

        1. Ok, it’s official…

The Italian minister of culture announced that David will play at Pompeii on July 7th and 8th…

Hope there will be a presale.

        2. Is not just a rumor anymore FEd!!! Our Ministry of Cultural Heritage twitted the news – 7 and 8 July.

Oh FEd, I live just few Km from Pompeii. Just 2/3000 tickets for show??? I think just fans deserve them so I hope a presale!!!

I think we have just to wait the official announcement. 🙂

  73. “I’m an atheist, and I don’t have any belief in an afterlife. You could say that I’m resigned to the fact that this wonderful life that we get here is it. And having hit 60, it’s a good time to get resigned to these things and not be too nervous or upset – and enjoy what great times one can have.”

    I’m happy, you’re happy.

  74. Happy Birthday David! (A little late but was thinking of you. 🙂 ) Hope you have a great year.

FEd, would you know if the set lists will be similar for the Radio City Music Hall show and the Madison Square Garden shows? I am shopping the secondary ticket market, very scary, I just can’t not go.

    1. I couldn’t tell you, sorry. It’s meant to be a surprise.

      Good luck getting tickets.

  75. A very Happy Belated Birthday wish to David from the Bronx NYC. See you on the west coast soon. 🙂

  76. Pompeii is a done deal according to the Italian ministry of culture…7th and 8th of July. PING! PING! (I know, I know, no Rick no Echoes, but let us dream.)

  77. A Very Merry Unbirthday to You, David !

I thought you might be feeling left out because I’ve sent this Unbirthday greeting to everyone except you !

I hope you had a lovely day. 🙂
