‘5 A.M.’ teaser

Ready to hear a little more from Rattle That Lock? Thought so.

Keep an eye on DavidGilmour.com today, because another teaser wishes to tease you; a snippet from ‘5 A.M.’, the album’s opening track, will be available on the hour – on the ‘Listen’ page – from 12 noon (UK).

Let us know what you think of it.

  1. How frustrating! Where’s the rest!????

I heard just a few opening notes and thought, “ooooh yessss” and settled back to listen. Hmmmm, lovely. . . . then it stopped!!!!!

Yes, I really like the sound of that. 😀

  2. Sorry I’ll not contribute much this time…

I have no words for what I’ve just heard.

  3. I need more…What about Marc Brickman, is he involved in this tour?

    Thanks for the teaser!!

    1. “We want more …” I think this is why it’s called a teaser, folks … but it all sounds very promising and dreamy and Gilmourish.

I’m a bit concerned that somebody ran over a crow with a lawnmower but that’s another story.

  4. This is what we all love David for. I sure hope this one doesn’t fade out prematurely. Come to think of it, with tracks like this, the tour could be one of the best ever.

  5. Brilliant. This is a little more from what Polly teased us with some weeks ago. Can’t wait to hear the rest!

  6. Sounds great. Love the guitar sound and keys make it so atmospheric. Reminds me of Rick’s playing.

      1. Do I sound greedy if I ask you: Could you please bring back this lovely banner (the calligraphy, I mean) to the blog front page as it was a few years back?

Or maybe it’s just not technically possible?

  7. Teaser, eh? It quite teased me but I’ve already ordered the deluxe package, so there’s only waiting now. 🙂

Not that I wouldn’t have expected it: the few notes are what I love to hear from David Gilmour.

39 days to Oberhausen and hopefully Childhood’s End on the setlist. 😉

  8. It really sounded good but it’s only 38 seconds. I hope that maybe you could tease us a little bit more and add another 38 seconds. 🙂

    Take care, Thomas

  9. too short!!

    we need more… and more… and more…

to wait (for the album, for the concerts) is the worst thing possible.

  10. How do I post a picture? My son did a quick and dirty sketch of David and I would like to post it.

He calls it quick and dirty. It’s really nice and not dirty at all!

    1. You can e-mail it to me if it’s not already online somewhere. If it is, you could post (or e-mail) the link.

  11. OMG! I can NOT wait for this album! A totally outstanding little snippet! I’m beginning to see why he says it’s potentially the best thing he’s ever done! Haunting, enveloping loveliness! Pure Gilmour! It’s a glimpse into his soul! Wonderful!

  12. Before my conscious mind had a chance to formulate a verbal impression of the 5 a.m. teaser, my body manifested a visceral/physical response in the form of chills and goosebumps! I am getting so excited for the release.

Looking forward to the journey …

    1. It had the same effect on me too Gabby.

A surefire sign that 5 A.M. will rouse the soul.

  13. Little (silly) confession: I wouldn’t appreciate to be woken up at 5:01AM by the music of Roger (Pros and Cons), but I would be delighted to wake up one minute earlier with the music of David! What a lovely way to start the day.

    Silly, I told you… 😉

  14. It’s quite amazing just how much a mere 38 seconds can whet one’s appetite! I’m already loving the title track and the teaser of 5 A.M. hints at a level of brilliant consistency for the whole album. I can’t wait to hear the whole album at home and (hopefully) live on the 23rd of September at the Royal Albert Hall.

  15. The teaser is awesome.

It is like déjà vu for me though. Every time I took LSD as a young man I used to have this vision of going through a field up a hill as Shine On You Crazy Diamond was playing. Now twenty years later I am seeing that field in the 5 am video. Trippy!

  16. Nice snippet. Sounds really familiar to me, as if I’d listened to it before. Strange.

Yesterday Polly and Jon tweeted some pictures of the rehearsals, hope you can tease us a little bit more about that soon.

And on the Listen page check also the updated EPK (main changes at the beginning).

  17. OK I’ve one word. Graceful!

By the way…Guy and Jon are in the band, David looks great and we’re definitely looking forward to know more.

  18. Consider me teased. Can’t wait to get my hands on that Boxed Set. Any sound that comes from the Man’s hands is always Magical.

  19. That “tata tata ta ta taaaaaaa”, reminds me of something else from David Gilmour that I can’t put the finger on right now, beautiful 39 seconds…I guess we will just need to wait until the 5th to listen to the rest in Brighton…

  20. How much more “signature” David can it get?

Goosebumps and neck hair standing. It has that same enchanting atmosphere to it like “Cluster One”.

    Wonderful teaser.

  21. Songs for David to play this tour… Hmmm… How about “Fearless”, “Dogs”, and I know David isn’t fond of it, but how about a re-working of “The Narrow Way”? I think he could turn the latter into a memorable jam.

    1. Sorry, I have probably mis-spoke. David’s career cannot end without playing “Childhood’s End”!

  22. Here it is.

Like I said, Jesse calls it quick and dirty. He did this in 5 minutes on his way out of the door.

    1. Oh dear. I get “The page you requested cannot be displayed at the moment. It may be temporarily unavailable, the link you clicked on may be broken or expired, or you may not have permission to view this page.” But I’m not a Facebooker.

  23. FEd,

Maybe with all the recent activity that will stretch into next year the teaser line for this Blog should get changed?

I think you’ll agree that, “Blogging since 2005 and still not David Gilmour,” kinda doesn’t fit the current status quo.

Maybe, “Blogging since 2005 – let’s keep talking.” Or “Rattling locks since 2005.”

  24. Got me hooked. Ordered vinyl deluxe and Blu-ray and going to Brighton and Albert Hall. Does that make me a fan FED? 🙂

  25. hi there fed, just wondered if you could tell us which tracks are the instrumentals. i’m 56 and i’m getting impatient. another 5 weeks to wait. at least it’s only 3 weeks to brighton.

have you heard the album? any standout tracks?

    sorry for being a nuisance.

    cheers neil

    1. I haven’t heard it, but ‘A Boat Lies Waiting’ is one, apparently – with Crosby and Nash.

I believe the instrumentals are the opening and closing tracks – ‘5 A.M.’, ‘And Then…’ – and ‘Beauty’.

  26. Very much digging the new clips! Love the video about the choir too! What a fantastic idea!

  27. Very nice. I can imagine David hearing this melody in his head walking through his house at 5am. Perhaps staring out at the sea from his balcony, or walking along it in contemplation.

  28. Hi FEd,

I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong, but it appears that davidgilmour.com no longer has the option to ENTER the site and get to the areas that we normally see with announcements and the blog. Is it just me? Or is this happening for others too?

I’m sorry to be a squeaky wheel here.

      1. Maybe (surely) I misunderstood what you both said, but I still see davidgilmour.com as it was before, with all the options, ‘the blog’ included.

          1. Ah yes, thank you. Now, if you click on ‘DAVIDGILMOUR.COM’ – left to the facebook, twitter and spotify icons – on the page Maya was going to, you get the good old website page. 🙂

  29. Does anyone know what time the preview show will end? Because I have to book the Eurotunnel back to Calais.

  30. I was watching The Wall movie this weekend. In an early scene you see two huge doors with a chain and a lock around the handles. Kids are pushing those doors and the lock is rattling back and forth.

Of course this scene is not what inspired David for his new track. But interesting how the underlying message has been carried through the years.

  31. do you know if any merchandise will be on sale at the brighton concert? sorry to be a nuisance.

counting the days. sad considering i’m nearly 60.

    cheers neil

    1. There almost certainly will be merchandise there, Neil. I’ll be very surprised if there isn’t.

  32. Hello everybody,

I’ve been waiting for a long time to attend another gig of David like all of you.

Unfortunately I cannot be in Brighton on the 5th and I have a ticket for the first row that I would like to give as gift to one of you. It would be a shame to see an empty seat right in front of David playing so if somebody is interested please let me know.

The ticket must be collected at the venue but I will contact Ticketmaster and make sure it will be there for the right one.

It really hurts me not to be there but at least someone else will be happy. That will compensate all.
The ticket will be given away for free.

    Hope to hear from you.

    1. That’s very kind, but I’m not sure it will work out. I think you need to collect the ticket.

  33. Humor is universal. Having said that, humor is also very different from country to country. What is hilarious in one spot can be offensive in another. We need to be tolerant of the ignorance of a sense of humor. We also need to be more thoughtful of what we say. I am guilty of not being thoughtful and I am deeply sorry for it. My only defense comes from a salty old sailor named Popeye… I am what I am and that’s all that I am.

  34. Beautiful!

For me, this song will have the same effect as “Marooned” and “The Blue”.

I can’t wait to hear it completely. I know I will use it for my savasana.
