Belated greetings

Please belatedly join me in sending Guy Pratt, who celebrated his 50th (I know, I can’t believe it either) Margarita in a row birthday earlier this week, all the very best for the year ahead.

And the same to you, of course: Happy New Year and all that. Hope and reminiscence to follow, naturally, on Monday when normal blogging service will resume.

Guy has been very good to this blog since the beginning; generous with his donation of prizes and time during the On an Island tour, plotting with Irregulars behind my back so beautifully, and so kindly collecting our Best Music Blog award from the very nice BT Digital Music Award people – back in 2007. Because of this, and I dare say mostly out of deep appreciation for his many talents both musical and comedic, I know that some of you would like to leave a message for Guy to commemorate the occasion and as such am happy to provide, albeit shamefully belatedly, a modest space for you to do so.

I’m sorry that they’re late, Guy. Happy Birthday for Tuesday.

  1. Happy Belated 50th Guy! Wishing you all the best of health success and happiness for this and many more! :v

  2. A belated ‘Happy Birthday’ from a complete stranger in the US of A who very much enjoys your bass guitar contributions to our musical universe.

  3. Happy Birthday Guy, for me you are a full-fledged Pink Floyd, a nice man in addition to being an excellent musician. I hope to see you soon on the upcoming tour of David in France.

  4. Heavens above, Guy doesn’t look a day over 48. Must be taking it easy.

Fond memories (thanks to the Blog) of meeting the great plank spanker himself and sharing a swift pint before one of his shows in Islington. Seemed a disarmingly nice chap and recommend the stand-up to any of you out there who haven’t caught it yet.

(Note to Guy, have you tried taking it to Brazil?)

Happy New Year to all. Those with nothing better to think of may like to know that Bella is settling in nicely and getting on well with her other 4 legged house-mates.

    Chat next week. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. You have a good sense of humour, Mr Pratt, right?

    This is for you.

Seriously, I hope you had a great day and I wish you and yours a very Happy New Year! ๐Ÿ™‚

PS: Please, stop hating Math in 2012. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. I managed to get my birthday greetings to Guy in on time, on the previous blog. I don’t mind sending him belated ones too. ๐Ÿ˜€

I have been a grateful recipient of Guy’s generosity, witnessing his ‘ Wake Up Call’ show in Manchester just over a year ago.

I’d like to think I was instrumental in Guy being able to receive the Best Music Blog Award back in the day, as I was the guilty party who originally suggested putting this blog forward the year before. Coincidentally, today happens to have been my dearly beloved’s birthday, although she passed Guy’s landmark seven years ago… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. Welcome back FEd and all the best for the coming year.

Many happy (belated) returns Guy. You’re a great musician, comedy talent and all round nice guy! Great to be part of your extended family. Best wishes for 2012.

    Paul

  8. Happy 50th Guy. Have a Margarita for me, oh hang on that may be considered a Breakfast for Idiots, or maybe a breakfast for those who just wish to have a great time. (No disrespect to RB.)

Looking forward to your next tour, it has been nearly two years since you last visited the land of the Great White Sharks.

A Happy new year to yourself FEd and of course the Gilmour family. It would be great to see David down under again, I think it has been nearly 24 years since his last visit.

Wishing you all a Great New Year, and hopefully another 50 GOOD ones for Guy.

    Cheers,
    snow.

  9. Many Happy Returns for Tuesday Guy. ๐Ÿ˜€

Happy New Year to The Gilmours, to you Guy, to you Fed and to all the irregulars. ๐Ÿ˜€

  10. Hello and Happy New Year to Fed and everyone!

The great thing about 2012 is that it can’t possibly be any worse than 2011… :/

The bright spot in the year was that I had a GREAT online chat with Mr. Pratt!! May you live to see another 50 years!

…and as today is 1/6, Happy Birthday to Syd (Roger Keith) Barrett, wherever you are travelling, put it into interstellar overdrive, cosmic starman! 8)

  11. Welcome back FEd and Belated Happy Birthday, Guy!

Wishing everyone all the best for 2012.

To Michele: Would it be okay if Guy said he loves maths but the rest of us just keep teasing you about how we all hate it? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Cheers,
    Ralph

    1. “Teasing”, you say? Oh yes, it would be okay.

How about this quote by Hungarian Mathematician George Polya: “Mathematics consists in proving the most obvious thing in the least obvious way.” :))

  12. Better late than never:

Happy Birthday, Guy! You’re now a proud twen with three decades of experience. ๐Ÿ˜›

    Cheers,

    Taki

  13. Happy, happy birthday, Guy. Hope you had an enjoyable day. Hope to see you live again one day.

P.S. I loved your story about how you came about getting your Fender bass!

  14. Happy Birthay Guy for a year full of wonderful things and for 50 more!

Happy New Year FEd, the Gilmours too and all people involved in The Blog.

    A great hug from Rome

  15. Happy birthday, Guy!!! Still love your Comfortably Numb dance!!

  16. The “Irregular” plot would have made many government agencies jealous of the way it was executed…

I originally posted a comment on Guy’s blog asking him if he would participate in some shenanigans which would result in Guy giving our beloved Features Editor a gift at the end of DG’s OAI tour. Guy responded to my request and the wheels were in motion…

Several of the Irregulars agreed to participate in the conspiracy and we bought the Fed a Liverpool Jersey, Ian Pearson made the now famous Glassman Statue and with money left over we agreed that this would be donated to CRISIS by way of a cheque given to DG from the Irregulars.

So with thanks to Ali, Angelo, Becky, Bianca, Brad & Karissa, Claudio, Deborah, Erin, Frank, Gabrielle, Geoff, Howard, Ian, IMck, Jorge, KenF, Kevin, Laurie, Neil, Nick, Renee, Shelley, Simon, Stephen, Susan, Tim, Tim not Florida, Veronica and of course Guy for participating in this plot.

    Happy Birthday Guy.

My recollections may not be 100% so if anyone would like to add to this comment please do… ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Only to add that I’m blushing at the memory of this very lovely deed. Thank you, all, so much for your kindness. It will be the one thing, more than anything else (and I mean that sincerely), that I will take from this strange experience and remember most fondly.

    2. Thanks for that, Rudders. I hadn’t thought about ‘the plot’ in a long time. Surreptitious fun!

Also, hope Guy had a fab birthday!!!!

    3. Ah yes, the Irregulars’ conspiracy with Rudders as ringleader, Ian as Glassman’s creator, and Guy acting as conduit to FEd … what fun that was! ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy belated birthday to Guy! Fifty is the new 30 in my humble opinion. Enjoy your new decade. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  17. Happy belated Birthday wishes Guy!!!

I hope you had a great day and wish you many, many more!

PS: Merry New Year to everyone. 8|

  18. Happy birthday, Guy.

Unfortunately, that’s reminded me that my 50th is not too far away. ๐Ÿ™

Hope to see you live again with Mr Gilmour or Pink Floyd sometime soon.

  19. Happy Birthday Guy!!!! Plus I hope you had a great new year’s, FEd…

    Take Care,
    Thomas

  20. Hello Guy,

Best belated wishes for your special day!

Had the pleasure to see you at Massey Hall in Toronto for the “On an Island” tour. if I recall, you later remarked that you thought that this show was the band’s best yet, at that point. Can’t argue with you about that. You guys were on fire that night and that show remains as my all time favorite concert. Thanks for that.

    John

  21. Happy Belated Birthday to Guy. And a Happy 43rd Anniversary to David on joining a band that would have just a little influence on the trajectory of his life and career.

Happy New Year all around. ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Happy birthday to Guy. As some others (Jon Carin, Dick Parry), he is a essential part of Pink Floyd, and a great musician and person in general. ๐Ÿ™‚
