Prize draw reminder

David rehearsing at Bray with the iconic black Strat, May 2006

Just a reminder that the Amazon prize draw for US residents closes tomorrow – Wednesday 17 December – at 23:59 (EST).

If you want to be in with a chance of winning a David Gilmour Signature Strat, be sure to enter (US residents only, sorry).

The best of luck to you.

The deadline for the UK-only draw is 23:59 (GMT) on Sunday 21 December. Click here to put your name into the hat.

The prize is the same and, again, good luck.

The chatroom will be open for another 30 minutes or so. If you’ve nothing better to do right now, drop in.

The final (extended) chat of the year is on Thursday – from 14:00 until 18:00 (UK).

  1. Thanks for the four hour chat on Thursday. A nice (and much appreciated) Christmas gift.

    [You’re welcome. – FEd]

  2. Good luck to all who entered their names (US and UK residents only, grrrr).

Enjoy your chat, FEd! I’ll be at work, as I’ll be over the “holidays”, so I won’t be able to join it. The end of year is near and a lot of goals that need to be achieved…

    Best regards,

[I hope you’re not working too hard. – FEd]

  3. [I hope you’re not working too hard. – FEd]

    I will, but I don’t mind. 😀

After all that’s what I’m paid for and good results are rewarded…

    [That’s true. – FEd]

  4. My name is in the hat as well.

And how cool would it be if anyone who is part of this blog would win one of these guitars???

Good luck to all who entered.

  5. I was tardy for chatroom today, well actually I was absent, but I have a good excuse…

[Sorry you couldn’t make it, Melissa. – FEd]

  6. I put my name into the hat. I also had a bunch of friends sign up for the drawing.

I just hope whoever wins the guitar will be able to appreciate it they way it was meant to be appreciated. Play it, don’t just hang it on wall. . . .

I picked up the Guitar Player Magazine yesterday. The photo on the cover looks much better than the picture on the blog makes it out to be. Absolutely gorgeous!

Peace and Love to you all,

  7. Hello Fed!

There will be no “Christmas Raffle” this year?

    [I’m afraid not. – FEd]

  8. Great pic that!!

While I’m here, a Merry Xmas to one and all.

Looking forward to more random nonsense in 09.

  9. Hi,

I’m so sorry I’ll probably won’t find the time to join the chat on Thursday.

I’m looking forward to chatting with you all again in the new year.

[It’s been very nice to see you there, Alessandra. I certainly appreciate the effort. – FEd]

  10. HI FEd,

I put myself in the hat for the guitar. If I win I will ask David to teach me to play.

Thanks for the long chat coming up Thursday.

Also, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to you, David and family and to all the lads and their families also. And remember Richard as well.

Also Merry and Happy to the chatters and bloggers.

    [Bless you, Bev. – FEd]

  12. My hat’s in the ring. I’d love to win it (the Strat, not my hat back) but good luck to all who entered!

I would like to echo the comment that the winner should play the heck out of it, even if they’re not a guitar player! 🙂

If I win I’m going to install a vintage, patent-pending Kahler in it, to get that ’84 Gilmour sound!

  13. I just entered my name into the Black Strat drawing. It’s a whim, since I don’t play guitar. But my brother does play, and I am sure he’d enjoy this fine instrument. I would have to fill him in on the legends of David’s original Strat.

I have to note an irony. A number of people have said they hope the owners of these signature Strats will use them the way they were intended: to play them, not just hang them on a wall somewhere.

But the original DID hang on a wall for ten years or so, at a Hard Rock cafe. Thus, hanging this replica on a wall would mimic part of the Black Strat’s history.

  14. Hello dear FEd and all of you,

after years..another Christmas together, just a little drop so sad.

Thank you FEd for your precious job with us, for us, David and residual PF community. Thank you for the familiar/professional blend in the blog.

Hope a happy new year with joy and good health for you and David’s family and band.

Wishing you all the special best, FEd.

I’ll be back to the blog next year.

    With my heart

[Diana, you’re a sweetheart. Thank you and Merry Christmas. – FEd]

  15. Just listening to the Making Of ‘New Skin For The Old Ceremony’ – Leonard Cohen, on Classic 21: ‘I Try To Leave You’, ‘There Is A War’,’Chelsea Hotel #2’… and now the beautiful ‘Who By Fire’… Wow!

Maybe a ‘Cohen Covers’ next year on the blog? I hope so.

  16. My name’s in the hat.

Dyonisos, if I win, I promise to play the heck out of it!

[You’ve probably got as much chance of winning the guitar as you have of winning Dyonisos’ hat, but you never know. Good luck to you. – FEd]

  17. Off topic but……….

Hearing David play ‘Here I Go’ the other day made me think that, over the last few years, David has played several Syd songs.

Put them all together and you would get a really good ‘David sings Syd’ type album.

Any real possibility of this in the future?

[Who knows? But it would be good, wouldn’t it? There is now a, by the way, if anyone’s interested. – FEd]

  18. Hi FEd and friends.

I certainly agree with Dan about part of the black Strat’s life being hung on a wall. But we’d have to get people to steal bits off of it and at least lose the case! We’d also have to hang it on someone else’s wall and, when we ask for it back, they’d deny all knowledge of it being a loan!
But, if anyone truly feels this way about their prize, then my wall is at your disposal. 🙂

Hope to catch some of you tomorrow in the chat.

Bought all those prezzies now FEd?

[Yes, I think so. How about you?- FEd]

  19. [I have to note an irony … not just hang them on a wall somewhere. But the original DID hang on a wall for ten years or so… – NewYorkDan]

That is a great comment, Dan.

My Eugene does indeed hang on the wall, but it hangs on a special wall hanger like the hangers in guitar shops (along with my other guitars) and one simply takes it off the hook and plays it and when finished hangs it back on the hook on the wall. This is a safe method (so the guitar is safely out of the way of children and cats, etc.) and is a great way of utilising space.

I think the Gilmour Strat would make an excellent companion to my dear axe, Eugene. LOL.

My fingers and toes are crossed at winning the said Strat. Well, one can dream anyway.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.

    Best regards.

  20. Hello everyone, have not been here for ages for various reasons… hope everyone is OK and thanks for posting these great articles of David.

    Have a nice day friends,

  21. Hi FEd and everyone,

How do you do? I am writing from San Francisco and this is my first time to join the blog.

My name is in the hat. If I win the guitar, I will definitely play it for my blues band’s gigs!

David is one of my top guitar heroes for many many years since when I used to live in Japan! Lots of thanks to David for a lifetime of inspiration!

Wishing you all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

    Best Wishes,
    Yoko Arimichi

[The same to you and good luck with the prize draw. – FEd]

  22. Dear Fed,

This might be the last time for this year that I can post to you so a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all the bloggers out there.

Thank you so much for all your hard work and especially this year which could not have been the easiest.

A Happy Christmas and New Year also to David, Polly and Family…. Live in Gdansk was brilliant and sad at the same time. Thank you so much for going to the trouble of making it something so very special when it could have been just a CD!!!

With very best wishes and look forward to being back in the New Year,

[All the best for 2009, Heather. Thanks for the kind words. – FEd]

  23. Good luck to some lucky person. A really wonderful gift for Christmas.

FE’d, I am wondering if you will be the lucky recipient of all the hats being thrown in and what will you do with them?

To all the Gilmour family, band and organization… Merry Christmas. FE’d… hope you have a wonderful time away from us, but come back next year renewed and with plenty of witty comments for us.

May you all experience peace and joy during the holidays and the new year.

[Thank you, Jan… Do you want to buy a hat? – FEd]

  24. [Thank you, Jan… Do you want to buy a hat? – FEd]

I know this is crazy, but maybe I should have thought of this sooner. With all the ‘hats’ being tossed in, perhaps we could have a blogger ‘hat’ exchange! Problem would be getting them sent in and sent back out. Need a ‘hat clearing house’. I’d love to exchange a hat with some of these crazy bloggers.

At any rate, my ‘hats’ off to you for another wonderful blogging year.

    Till next year… Cheers!

[Cheers, Jan. Enjoy the holidays. – FEd]

  25. To NewYorkDan: You may want to charge your brother for it should you win as it’ll be around 6 grand on your income taxes for this year! Should I win, I’ll be pickin’ and grinnin’ something other than my…..well, who knows?

To Bev: Bev, that was one of the most charming posts I’ve read since I read your previous post. You have such an eloquence with words.
