Photo of the month

Pawel with his signed copy of 'On an Island'

Here’s November’s. (Yes, just 29 days until Christmas, folks…)

It’s the very well-read Pawel, with his signed copy of ‘On an Island’.

Thanks for sending it in, Pawel.

If you haven’t seen it yet, do have a look at the new Gdańsk microsite. Comments welcome.

Also, if you’re in the States, you can catch ‘Live in Gdańsk’ – and lots more – as part of VH1’s all-day Pink Floyd Thanksgiving fest. That’s from 11:00 (EST).

Other programmes include the ‘Which One’s Pink?’ documentary, The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story, a Classic Albums special on the making of ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, footage from the ‘P.U.L.S.E’ DVD and ‘The Wall’ film. Nothing that you haven’t seen before, I expect, but still.

There are also plenty of the usual repeats coming up. Please see the calendar for those.

And what has FEd planned for the holidays and year-end…or is it still too far out to plan anything? Going away or any extended time off? Will the blog go on extended hiatus again like last year?

    Hope all is well.

    Thanks.

    Andrew

[Thank you. The Blog will most certainly not be in a (completely needless, absurd) state of flux, as it was last year. – FEd]

  2. Just wanted to wish all a good holiday this week. However you spend this time, I hope it is very enjoyable.

By the way, have finally gotten my ‘Gdansk’ box. Have only seen one of the DVDs so far. Seems to me that David decided that this concert was going to be something extra special. What I have seen and heard so far is really wonderful. I enjoyed the extras in the box, too. They are going to be joining my concert tickets and a special program that I have been saving to frame.

For the extraordinary session that the bloggers were able to see at Abbey Road, would someone please take a moment to remind me who these lucky souls were? I do recall Julie Gunn Davies and her friend, Sue, but have long since lost the rest of the names. I just wanted the reminder so that when I look at the DVD I might be able to pick out a face here and there if they come up again on this blog. Thank you in advance.

    All the best,
    Jan

  3. For those who have tried in vain over the years to acquire David’s autograph…that photo is truly
    a-Paweling…

    Congrats none the less Sir!

I’ve actually never seen the “Which One’s Pink” documentary…what’s that one all about?

I can’t wait to see this!!!

Thanks for the “Feds Up” on this one!

  4. OOooooooOOO how nice. 🙂

David`s and Polly`s autographs from Gdansk press conference. 🙂

Autographs on the left side – Leszek Możdżer – from Kraków press conference. 🙂

    [Thanks again, Pawel. – FEd]

  5. Hello FEd,

good news! Live in Gdansk has finally arrived…obviously this week that I’m not at home, so that I won’t see it until Monday!

    I just can’t wait!!!

    Ciao,
    Alessandra

[That’s just typical. It’s worth waiting for, Alessandra. – FEd]

  6. – Nice photo. Pawel must be so proud…

BTW, isn’t it Polly’s signature below David’s one?

    – The Gdansk microsite, I don’t know if it’s new (I have to confess that I don’t often visit the main page), but I think it is ‘classy’ and it’s great to be able to watch the Gdansk version of ‘SOYCD’. Bravo!

    – A bit off topic: If anyone is interested, Classic 21 radio station will be broadcasting the making of ‘A Momentary Lapse Of Reason’ – PF – on 5 December at 3PM (CET). Click my name (and click ‘128k’ to listen).

    Michèle

    [Thanks for that. – FEd]

  7. Nice snap shot, Pawel!

[(Yes, just 29 days until Christmas, folks…) – FEd]

… and only 12 days to this site’s 3rd birthday.

    Best regards,
    Taki

[Where did those three years go? – FEd]

  8. I like your photo, Pawel. Lucky you.

I always liked how “On an Island” opened up like a book. It’s perfect for signatures!

Nice microsite. (Like the album itself, better late than never!)

  9. I just can’t believe this year is gone by so fast. Thanks for the info on VH1 Classic, I’m spending Thanksgiving alone this year and now it got better.

I will be remembering Richard and his family during the holidays.

Fed, I hope you have a nice holiday.

    [Thanks, Tracy. – FEd]

  10. Happy Birthday, davidgilmour.com!! Where HAVE those three years gone!?

Great pic-o-the-month, too. If I can’t have David’s autograph, at least I have a picture of David’s autograph!! Next best thing, I guess.

    Happy Thanksgiving, my American neighbors!

  11. I had a look at the microsite and its very good! Great to see the start of the concert and SOYCD.

I thought this would have been on the DELUXE version!…if it had to be on another disc..so what??? 6 instead of 5, it could have been the SUPER DELUXE version. Not including the start of a gig is very poor.
A real bee in my bonnet about this.

I read this article….maybe for another time (click my name).

    Thanks
    Paul

[Thanks for the link, Paul. Personally, I’d have to agree with James Masterton’s comments, but, of course, fans can choose not to buy if they feel cheated. Stereophonics, for example, putting out a Greatest Hits album after ten years of making music irks me, too. Rather like the musician’s equivalent of a testimonial match, don’t you think? Although it’s not like the musician gets all the proceeds from sales; musicians are so often cash cows, milked dry by the people around them. And the fans keep paying for the whole greedy, empty process to continue. – FEd]

  12. Nice score, Pawel! It would look mighty nice framed on the wall just like all fine art should be. 🙂

I’m going to try to catch Which One’s Pink? on VH1 Classic — everything else I can watch without the irritating commercial interruptions.

Mr. Wollaston from The Guardian certainly is full of himself, but I suppose that’s only to be expected given the title ‘critic.’ I don’t see David at all in the same light as does said critic … but Roger, maybe! ;^)

    Peace,
    Gabrielle

  13. Great picture Pawel!

Thanks for the info on the microsite. I probably would not have noticed it if you had not mentioned it. I really enjoyed SOYCD. Very nice feature.

I hope everyone that celebrates Thanksgiving has a most pleasant and peaceful one. I wish I could invite you all over for ham and dressing with all the trimmings. We have a small family but there will be a lot of food!

I can’t believe Christmas is so close. Have you done any shopping FEd? Here’s praying you and the blog don’t disappear like the end of last year, Ha!

    Barbara P

[Thanks, Barbara. Enjoy Thanksgiving. I’ve done almost all of my shopping, actually. – FEd]

  14. F’Ed:

Thank you very much for taking the time to locate the blog entry of the winners to the Abbey Road recording. I know you have enough to do without doing that too.

I hope you have a nice break this week.

    jan

[No problem at all, Jan. Glad to be of help. – FEd]

  15. interesting comments from the guardian there, i’m not sure if that is a surprise or not?

i’m not sure roger waters actually looks like a horse tho?

    maybe the next blog topic.

  16. [Click your name to see what the Guardian had to say about it. – FEd]

I wouldn’t expect any less from the Guardian, LOL. What a stuck-up newspaper.

Craig David also has a Greatest Hits album out and he’s only 27!

At least the deluxe editions have new content. Greatest Hits albums are just a con.

  17. Hi, Ralph, Happy Birthday, enjoy your day!

Hi, FEd (Mighty Reds, don’t read!), will you sing loudly “Allez Marseille!” tonight? I count on you.

Merci, that’s very kind of you.

    Michèle

[Hope you enjoy your birthday, Ralph. A few ice-cold Duvels ought to start things off nicely. (Allez Marseille?! No, I’m not going to be singing that tonight. Cheeky…) – FEd]

  18. FEd,

I know it’s not David pushing the deluxe this or that, and the record companies just coin it from genuine fans who will buy whatever is thrown at them. I personally would buy what ever David puts out as long as I have all of it.

I had to go to another source to get the start of the gig and additional songs, which I didn’t pay for.

I really wasn’t sure as to whether I should have posted that comment, but IMHO leaving out the start of the show was a poor decision by the Execs.

[It’s a fair comment and is understood. Contrary to some reports, constructive criticism has always been welcome here… even if certain quarters would prefer it if it wasn’t. It’s a product, after all, and consumers should always be allowed to have their say on the things they buy. – FEd]

  19. Happy Thanksgiving to All… (click my name).

We have much to be thankful for so let’s do something this week for someone who isn’t as fortunate.

    Any contribution helps…

    ILRW,
    Matt

  20. Yes I know envy is an ugly emotion, but it’s human, anyway in the meantime I can feel sincere happiness for you dear Pawel, with your signed copy of ‘On an Island’.

    Dear F.Ed.,

A couple of hours ago, in office, while I was holding on at the phone, the waiting-music of the called company was “Wish You Were Here” and listening to “that voice” made me immediately smile and feel well.

Take care, bye/ciao and bless you all
    Elisabetta

[Wow, I’m impressed. I usually get Lighthouse Family and high blood pressure. – FEd]

  21. Got a picture for Photo of the Month.

A nice looking kangaroo I took a shot of this summer in Australia (click my name). 🙂

    [That’s a cute little thing. – FEd]

  22. [IMHO leaving out the start of the show was a poor decision by the Execs. – Paul Sexton]

    A seriously poor decision.

Nice photo of Pawel with his signed OAI.

    Happy birthday to Ralph.

  23. Thanks to the programming czars at VH1 Classic I LAUGH at American football.

Oh, that’s right, I was laughing at that any way. I mean, it’s supposed to be an hour-long game and it inevitably takes twelve days to play. What’s that about?

I shall have good food and all the Floyd and Gilmour I can stand. Well, no, but a lot. AND pumpkin custard brulee.

  24. Well done Pawel, you must have a lovely memory of your meeting with David and Polly and will always remember every time you play the album now. 🙂

    ash X

  25. Pawel, it is so nice that not only do you have David’s autograph, but you have Polly’s too.

    That’s great.

  26. Yay, the Deluxe version finally arrived here in Poland. Been a long wait, but well worth it. Loving every ‘0’ and ‘1’.

The LiG site is very nice as well (one thing I noticed is that the 13th and 14th photo on the site won’t load… don’t know if it’s just me?).

If all those videos and photos won’t convince you to buy it… you’re a loon I say! The ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ clip is amazing… a shame it’s not on the DVD.

  27. [Wow, I’m impressed. I usually get Lighthouse Family and high blood pressure. – FEd]

“Sometimes we catch a glimpse of perfect happiness
It’s when you try to have everything
And it all goes up in smoke”

Nice lyrics, thank you for the input and information.

Have a nice day dear F.ed.

    bye/ciao Elisabetta

  28. [Nice microsite. (Like the album itself, better late than never!) – Siôn]

LOL! Why wait until the album’s been out two months to do a microsite? It was the same with the Fender one.

    Happy birthday Ralph.

  29. Pawel: Congratulations! Great picture, but how fantastic that you got all those signatures! Especially, Polly’s. What a treasure for you and as someone mentioned a great piece to frame.

[A nice looking kangaroo I took a shot of this summer in Australia… – Calibwam]

I am just wondering since it is smallish if it might actually have been a wallaby.

What part of Australia did you travel to and did you enjoy it? I lived there a short while and loved the country and the people.

    Jan

  30. Ah the old autographs, how we love them, nice photo Pawel.

It brings fond memories of Leicester Square when I think of Guy signing my son’s OAI T-shirt and saying to me “I’m not signing a pair of underpants.” Like a true gent he signed it anyway, as did a few other people, and EBAY ain’t never gonna see any of my signed stuff I tell you.
