Photo of the month

Barbara's dog, Hunter Beaudreaux

This is Barbara’s dog, Hunter Beaudreaux, who was adopted by Barbara after his original family lost everything thanks to Hurricane Katrina.

He’s lovely, Barbara. Thanks for sending your picture in.

If your pet will pose for a photo, and doesn’t mind you sneaking in something DG-related, we’d love to see your furry, feathered or flakey friend here. Just get your picture online and include its URL with your comment.

Don’t forget that extended ‘Live in Gdańsk’ on VH1 Classic (US-only) tomorrow, from 17:00 (EST)…

Nor your last chance in the UK – unless you’re in Wales* – to see the final part of ‘The Story of the Guitar’ (on TV, anyway): BBC4, Friday, 23:00 (UK).

* It’s on BBC2 Wales on Sunday 26 October at 23:20 (UK).

  1. Ha, ha. Get it? Pink Floyd Floating Pig shirt from the Animals era where you get Dogs. Very clever if that is what Barbara intended.

Of course I also don’t sense that this would be a member of the Dogs of War.

  2. I love this pic of Hunter the dog with the pig shirt.

Somehow there’s a connection between this and the fact that a sausage made from PORK is called a hot DOG. I may, however, be the only one who would make that connection.

It’s a lucky dog that gets to listen to Pink Floyd all day. Wish I could do the same.

  3. [It’s on BBC2 Wales on Sunday 26 October at 23:20 (UK). – FEd]

Sometimes, I just love being Welsh.

    Happy Days,
    Simon J

[What did they give us last Sunday instead, when the rest of the UK had ‘The Story of the Guitar’, Simon? Did you notice? A bloody Graham Norton repeat, I think it was. – FEd]

  4. ‘Le chien est le plus fidèle ami de l’homme’, dit-on ici, = (I think) a dog is man’s best friend, the most loyal.

C’est réconfortant, but it’s also very sad if it’s true.

And sometimes, masters abandon their dogs (quelle lâcheté!), but a dog will never abandon his master…

I think we have lessons to take from animals, no?

    [Definitely. – FEd]

  5. Going off the topic for one second, but did anyone see Burt Bacharach at the Electric Proms last night?

Apart from RTN, Pulse, and Live In Gdansk, that was probably the best live gig I’ve ever seen.

    Here’s to Burt!

    Simon J

  6. Thank heavens (doggy heaven that is) for people like you Barbara.

I’m sure you’ll make each other very happy!

Have you tried a mike near his mouth to see if he can sing like Seamus?

    Best wishes all,

  7. [My boxers, LUCY AND FANCY. – Tracy]

I don’t name my underwear. Do you FEd? LOL.

    [Funnily enough, I don’t. – FEd]

  8. Nice dog, Barbara. Is he a chocolate lab?

I feel for his previous family. Can’t imagine losing everything.

I’ll be watching on Friday. I already saw some online, but it’s not the same as watching on a big screen.

I wish I could watch the extra Gdansk footage tonight. I hope DG Management notice the poll results and allow everyone to see these extra songs soon, but somehow I doubt they will.

  9. [I don’t name my underwear. – Andrew]

I’m not sure if that falls under the “TMI” category, or we should heave a sigh of relief, LOL.

  10. Nice photo, Barbara.

Sorry for late notice: only just saw it in the programme listings. David in ‘Live from Abbey Road’ is on Belgian TV channel ‘Canvas’ tonight at 23:40 (GMT+1).

    Click my name for details.

[Thanks, Ralph. I’ll add it to the calendar. – FEd]

And don’t forget that FEd thought that Tracy’s were adorable.

[Just you wait until you see them. – FEd]

  12. Dino and I think the dog is adorable. Great shirt on him as well. My daughter, April, has a Chocolate Lab (Lilly) that looks much like Hunter Beaudreaux.

Thanks Barbara and FEd for sharing.

  13. Nice dog, I like the eyes!

Hope that you had a nice birthday Sylvie!

Thanks for reminding me that I also received the 5 disk set for my birthday. I bought it first thing on the day it was released, but when I brought it home, my wife confiscated it and left me sounding like a motorboat (But, but, but, but,….). Luckily I had also bought the 2 CD version and have been listening to it on most days.

The DVDs are bittersweet, seems like a Rick was in a lot of the shots.

  14. [I think we have lessons to take from animals, no? – Michèle]

I really think we have a lot to take from them.

They give us love without asking anything back, no matter who we are and they are always there when we need.

World would be a better place if we behaved like them.
    Shame for who abandon animals!

You have a very beautiful dog, Barbara..with a very beautiful shirt!

  15. Hey FEd!

Only furry, feathered or flakey friends?

What about my boa constrictor with it’s David Gilmour Beanie Hat and his little friend, the tarantula, sleeping in my Divison Bell Tour t-shirt?

Just kidding, unfortunately no pets in my place at the moment.

Looking at the picture of Barbara’s dog (with it’s lovely name) I would love to have such a nice and patient dog to dress-up in David Gilmour/PF-merchandising!

  16. I have nothing against dogs or cats (well, I really do have something against cats as I really don’t like cats) but it would be great to see a pic of some other pet.

No horses, sheep or cows out there? No cockatoos, parrots or hawks? No iguanas or crocodiles? No ant farms or amoebas?

C’mon, even Pink in The Wall had a pet rat when he was young.

I’m sure there is more than one Pig Man out there but I don’t think we need to see pics of them. Ha, ha, charade you are…

  17. Hey David, I would be happy to welcome you here in Mexico where there are lots of fans who would like to see you live.

My English is not very good, because I am only fluent in Spanish, but I hope you understand my message, and ask that between your busy schedule, place a space for Mexico.

David thank you very much, Shine On.

  18. Have a nice weekend Fed and all.

    Bring on Chelski!

[I’ll second that. Have a good one, Paul. – FEd]

  19. There is a programme on this morning at 1am, More 4, All You Need Is Love with some Pink Floyd footage.

  20. What a beautiful dog, thanks Barb for saving him. I’m sure he could cover Seamus.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

  21. That’s such a great pic. I am going to attempt to dress my dog up for Halloween. We tried dressing her up as an elf for Christmas and she was not pleased one bit. Maybe our second shot will be more successful, ha ha.

Anyways, I was in Borders today and I skimmed a copy of the Black Strat. I never knew that Pink Floyd shared the stage with Frank Zappa! I thought that was so cool.

I will definitely be purchasing it.

[Before anyone comments, I have to say this: Please don’t cause your pets any discomfort or distress for the sake of photograph. That’s the last thing I’d want to encourage. – FEd]

  22. I love labradors, they’re my favourite breed. I used to have a black one called Bess.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend!

P.S. I’m down in Swansea this weekend FEd!

[At least you’ll be able to visit that massive HMV now that you have your ‘Live in Gdańsk’. Or could it be the row of clubs along the Kingsway that appeal? I know what you students are like. – FEd]

  23. G’day FEd, not sure how to do the URL, so here a link to my shed.

My dog’s name is Belle, she’s an Aussie blue healer, her favourite track is “Seamus” off “Meddle”, and it always gets her ears up and looking around. She has listened to more Pink Floyd (David & the crew) than anything else; the last 5 weeks have been exclusive PF & DG at home and in the cars.

Thanks for the heads up on my last post.

Just one more thing, I have been revisiting “The Wall” this week and I’d just like to add how much more I like the version of “Comfortably Numb” on “RTN” and “Live in Gdansk”. My favourite is “RTN” disc II with the late Richard Wright singing. I love Richards’s voice, whatever it is that David does before he starts his second solo, the drums and the finish. The close-ups of David left hand are a jaw dropper for me; I’d love to see that in Super Slowmo.

[A dog with good taste. Thanks for that. – FEd]

  24. Just caught the VH1 “Live at Gdansk”. Great show.

I watch in amazement when David plays that guitar. Still is the best guitarist of all time. He is one of the few musicians who stayed true to his art form all these years and keeps the music fresh whether a 30 year old or 10 year old song.

At 55 yo I’ve been a die hard Floyd and especially David fan for 38 years.

I hope he continues to create great music for many years to come.

  25. Barbara:

Wonderful expression on your dog’s face.

Thank you for rescuing him. So nice to hear of a happy ending once in a while.

  26. Wow FEd, thanks so much for posting Hunter Beaudreaux’s picture. I didn’t have time to check the Blog yesterday and when I did today, well, what a surprise.

We are very fortunate to have him living with us, he has so much love to give. He is a chocolate lab and his eyes are amber and so beautiful. He does sing and rather loudly I must say when his little brother “Floyd” gets him going. Maybe I’ll send a picture of Floyd later. He is not as laid back as his big brother so that could be a task.

Hunter B took to us right away when we adopted him, I think due to his good nature. I would like for his first family to know how much he is loved here in our home and I hope they were able to rebuild their lives. There was and still is such heartache in the aftermath of Katrina.

Thanks again FEd for taking the time to show him off. I must go now and clean off my lap top screen where I tried to show Hunter B his picture, he has to taste everything. Big old baby!

[Very happy to do so, Barbara. – FEd]

  27. Lindo cão… gostaria de postar fotos dos meus cães!! são lindos…

    Um lindo dia a todos!!

    bjO¨ especial ao Gilmour.

  28. Blue is the colour. 🙂

[Oh, happy days. (Winning is their aim? Some of those wild, off-target shots… They couldn’t hit a cow’s backside with a banjo yesterday.) – FEd]

  29. Here’s my dog Einstein posing with the concert pass from the 5 disc set:

    […] and […]

Taking pictures of black dogs is a pain. 🙂

[Too cute. Thanks, Sander. We’re going to have a week of pet pictures – from Tuesday. – FEd]

  31. David Gilmour, sou seu fã desde os 9 anos to treinando pra tocar o pink floyd pra frente em uma outra geração, a verdadeira musica não pode parar!

  32. Thanks Jan and everyone for the kind words. It was our pleasure to invite Hunter B into our home and family.

I have found the older I get the more I’d rather have animals for company than some people I’ve met!

Just so you’ll feel better FEd, Hunter B loves to wear shirts so we did not have to force him to put it on for the picture. He also has a black RTN shirt with Wireman on it. (Our only child is grown and married but we do not have any grand children to spoil, can you tell!)

I can’t wait to see more pictures from everyone!

    Barbara P

[No insinuations from me, I know how it is. Mine has a thing for hats. – FEd]

  33. [They couldn’t hit a cow’s backside with a banjo yesterday. – FEd]

I love that expression, LOL! I also love seeing Chelski lose, so well done Liverpool.

  34. Does anyone can tell me what breed was Seamus? FEd?

    [Borzoi/Russian Wolfhound? – FEd]

  35. I know Mademoiselle Nobs was a Russian Wolfhound. Do you know if Seamus was the same breed?

    Thanks again!

[Sorry, no idea. I was thinking of Pompeii. – FEd]
