Planet Rock

Guy on stage in Gdańsk, 26 August 2006

Something else for your calendars, in case you’ve not seen ours: an interview on Planet Rock, which you can hear on Friday 26 September.

If you’re in the UK and possess a DAB digital radio, Planet Rock sounds very good on it. Alternatively, tune in through your television: channels 0110 on Sky, 924 on Virgin.

Everyone can listen online and there is a playback feature, should you miss it when it goes out ‘live’.

As it’s not obvious, please note that you need to click LISTEN NOW (at the top) to be able to listen again. The player will then pop up in a new window, where the archives and how you play back old shows (LISTEN AGAIN) becomes apparent.

You can try out that feature right now, in fact. Try Last 7 Days: Nicky Horne and (29/08/08).

Another Indie store for you to consider: LUNA Music, who have two stores in Indianapolis. Their prices are $32.98 for the three-disc and $46.98 for the four-disc. Don’t forget, you also get that exclusive ‘Wot’s…’ CD thrown in, and they’ll ship worldwide.

  2. Gonna go off on a slight tangent here but any update on that Scarfe guitar that was being sold for charity?

    Thanks.

    Andrew

[Only that it’s currently with Gerald Scarfe, being painted. – FEd]

  3. You can listen online to Guy Pratt from his Sunday rock show on Planet Rock (last show 31/08/08).

  4. Well, at first, sorry, I’m doing English classes, so…

I´m a Brazilian fan, 29 years old, Pink Floyd and David Gilmour fan since 18 years. Yesterday I listened to the Royal Albert Hall show, and..I loved it, it’s great, I don´t have words for explain what I felt.

Congratulations for a new album and please, David, I’m still waiting for you and your band..You have many, many, many fans here, why don’t you came to play here??

Well, I love you all, and wait for you in Brazil.

    God bless you all!!!
    Michel

  5. Fed, do you know how far through the Nicky Horne show that the tracks from David are played?

I listened for over an hour Saturday night but missed them.

    [I don’t, sorry. – FEd]

  6. Wow! Impressive! You really are a font of knowledge! (Correct, the expression?) And a great help too, I tried to listen to Nicky Horne and it worked, I also tried Guy Pratt on 31/08, perfect! Thank you.

    Good music, by the way.

Speaking of radio stations, maybe it’s not worth posting this link, (and not the right moment), it’s just in case someone is interested… It’s on Classic 21 (from 3PM – CET). Click my name.

And yes, the first day of school has been exciting!

[Ah, the first day back after a long holiday… It’s never easy. Thank you for the link. – FEd]

  7. More to look forward to! David is really spoiling us.

I’ve been listening to Nicky Horne for nearly an hour, but I don’t really like listening to the music on Planet Rock. I can make an effort to listen to David talking though!

I wanted to add that I think it’s great to see links to small, independent stores alongside the big chains. Well done FED!

  8. That picture of Guy just reminded me: I get to watch Randell and Hopkirk (Deceased) on ITV4. Still a great show.

    Regards
    Damian

I thought Guy didn’t play anything from Gdansk on his last show. Did I miss anything?

  10. Click my name and scroll to 03:38 for Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

[Thank you, Richard. (If you hear Aerosmith, by the way, you’re in the wrong place; you want the other side of the screen, so keep sliding.) – FEd]

Aren’t they singing “Slide This Way”?

    Thanks.

  12. I would like to pre order my October issue of Uncut, please. (Just teasing, Fed, but I would like to know where I could get me one.)

Well done on the forward, David.

I just read it over in the PRESS section, and it’s
much better than reading an interview transcript, and much more interesting to hear Wot’s on your mind.

[Good question. Can you not order directly from their website (click your name)? – FEd]

  13. hi fed,

just a note to say (if you’re looking for more press items) september’s guitarist mag has a two page what’s new on david’s custom ‘black strat’.

[Excellent. Thanks for letting me know. – FEd]

  14. Yay! Someone thought of a caption at long last. We haven’t had one of those for yonks. Not too many entrants for ‘Best Caption’ at the end-of-year Blog Awards.

I’m really looking forward to the album. It’ll be great to have a version of ‘Echoes’ from this period on CD, ‘cos I absolutely love the RTN version, more so (dare I say it) than the original studio version on Meddle. The solo after the first two verses gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

  15. A very big thanks to you, Richard, because, without your help…

    “This exceptional track”, NH said.

    So true.

    Michèle

  16. Hello David,

    Greetings from Alaska!

Your ‘Live in Gdansk’ album comes out just in time for my birthday! Just stopping by to show some appreciation for all you do.

    Have a successful week!

    Sylky

  17. Thanks again to you, F’Ed, and to David and his people, for your efforts to promote indie record stores. As I’ve previously said, they are increasingly difficult to find in the USA as the chains have been choking them out. At this point, sadly, the Net is choking out the chains. Soon, the act of going to a store and purchasing a disk will become a thing of the past.

We thought album cover art died with the advent of the CD, but it but it’s really dying now with the age of the download. It saddens me, as the art has always been part of my experience.

Anyway, your support of the indie stores will help to maintain the brick-and-mortar store as well as the art (and music) that is sold there.

[I do hope so. Thanks, Dan. I appreciate that. – FEd]

I hadn’t thought of the art.

I do miss the artwork of vinyl. I don’t even have a record player to play my records on anymore and I think they’re too expensive to buy not to use them.

  19. Thank you, Richard.

I wasn’t prepared for how different this would sound to the RTN version (which I love). It’s absolutely stunning!

  20. Thanks for the info on LUNA Music, FEd – a very helpful and friendly bunch, and very quick to respond to questions. A thumbs up from me!

    [Good to know. – FEd]

  21. Finally caught up and listened …..

We are all connoisseurs of the Gilmour sound of course, but did David ever play any better than this? The opening is very “old Floyd” and then after that famous 4 note motif it is probably the most “searing” I’ve heard him i.e at 3:43:30+, and then back to the new mellow take on the main refrain …. it really is all there …..

The fact is that the playing just got better throughout this tour and it looks like it ended on a terrific high ….. surely we have to see what happens next, don’t we? Even David must be wondering, just a little, how much further he could take this vein of form, mustn’t he?

I’d be really interested to know what he thinks about that, 2 years on … maybe some journalist could slip that question to him amongst the reunion nonsense.
