Date for Japan

Blog Poll: Which are you most looking forward to (from 'Live in Gdańsk')? 22% vote 'CD', 78% vote 'DVD'.

The Japanese release date for ‘Live in Gdańsk’ will be Monday 8 October, a slight delay of two weeks. This is because the packaging has to be adapted and they have “very long lead times” (just think of ‘Remember That Night’).

Advance apologies to anyone in Japan, but I’m sure you’ll agree, that’s not too bad at all.

Expect a release date as soon as we have one for Sony regions which aren’t ‘North America’.

Two more independent stores for you. If you’d like the exclusive ‘Wot’s…’ CD, please consider them.

Johnny’s in Connecticut are very happy to send copies overseas. They’re set up with PayPal and their shipping costs are expected to follow.

And you have a choice of three Schoolkids Records stores: two in North Carolina, one in Georgia. They’ll also ship worldwide.

The chatroom will be open for another half-hour. It’ll be open again on Friday, from 10:00 (UK).

  1. Thanks for the info on the two independent stores in the USA. Johnny’s in Connecticut with a PayPal set up is looking as my best bet to order from.

[More on them soon, Gary. – FEd]

  2. I also wish to applaud the Features Editor for providing yet more advertising space for the independents. It is admirable and sincere.

All links are useful to readers who might wish to purchase at their convenience, but to do this to help lesser known retailers is very decent of you.

I get the feeling that you are doing it because you want to, whereas nameless others do such things because they’re expected to or because there’s something in it for them.

For example, am I the only one who feels that the endless nodding toward Amazon is getting tedious?

    [Thanks very much. – FEd]

  3. Ciao,

I write about the poll. I voted for the CD.

My expectations are for the CD and I can tell why. I think that “Remember that Night” was perfect. But being a DVD the audio quality was a bit lower than a CD and depended from the audio system on the TV set. Now with a CD all the sounds will be perfect and playable on my stereo…on my car….

But obviously I also want to see the vast crowd of Gdansk and the orchestra….

I have to buy weed for that night (hahaha)……

  4. Bravo from me too Fed on the independent store postings. The usual suspects get all too much business.

[Thanks, Howard. Share the wealth, I say. – FEd]

  5. [Am I the only one who feels that the endless nodding toward Amazon is getting tedious? – Luis G]

    Gotta agree here!

…I am as guilty as, I did my Amazon pre order with 1 click for the 5 disc version. We really should support the smaller retailers. Good point!

  6. Just placed my order with Luna. Happy to support the independents. Thanks for that, Fed.

Looks like Best Buy will be getting most of the business from us hardcore fans here in the States, though. They seem to have the exclusive on the 5-disc set. I’m buying from both.

Really looking forward to this release. I’m most looking forward to the CD, but you can bet I’ll be watching the DVD on Sept. 23rd!

  7. I’m from North Carolina so that works out good.

We are expecting a hurricane this weekend and it looks like two more are following its track. That’s scary! So hopefully, my family and I won’t get blown away.

Thanks Fed for all you do.

    [Stay safe, Tracy. – FEd]

  8. I’m looking forward to the DVD most… but the CD will have the greater lasting pleasure I think…

  9. Agreed on the indie stores. It’s nice that someone’s looking out for them because they really struggle up against big opposition sometimes and they rarely get any ad space.

Tough poll question here, but it has to be the CD for me. I think concert video has taken over. I still like to do what Piergiorgio’s planning to do and get lost in sound.

  10. Have I missed something? Did I hear correct that David would be on Radio 2 on 24th September between 8-10pm and that Echoes would be played in its entirety?

    [That’s right. – FEd]

  11. I just heard that David will be chatting to BBC Radio 2’s Stuart Maconie and Mark Radcliffe later in the month.

Something else to look forward to later in the month.

    [Indeed. – FEd]

  12. I agree with Piergiorgio. (It happens much more often than you’d think, Pier!)

If I had to choose between the CD and the DVD, I would choose the CD. I can listen to my CDs everywhere, at home, in my car, on holidays, when I am eating with friends, when I am working (at home, of course),….even when I am in the chatroom! 😉

And it’s the first Live CD from David!

But I have not that exclusive choice to make, so…yes…the 5-disc set will be perfect!

    ‘Greedy’, you say?

  13. In the U.S., Best Buy has the 5 disc set for ($69.99) and Amazon has it for ($115.99).

Does anybody know if you get anything extra with Amazon, or are they just being greedy?

    [Well, there’s nothing extra… – FEd]

  14. Hi Ho FEd,

Just wondering if there is a particular version/s you have to order to get the Wot’s CD? Something is scratching around in my head telling me that pre-ordering the 5 disc set doesn’t qualify … correct?

And for Australians, both JB Hi Fi and Sanity are advertising the various versions at various prices with dates ranging from Sept 19th to 27th.

[You’re correct as to the ‘Wot’s…’ deal. The five-disc/deluxe and vinyl sets don’t count. – FEd]

  15. i personally prefer listening to concerts on cd rather then watching them because i can concentrate on the music better.

  16. I agree with Michèle, the CD can go anywhere. I’ll listen to it when I’m in the car most of all.

  17. I voted for the DVD because you get the best of both worlds.

I can’t wait to get this CD/DVD in my hands. Thanks David! You continue to inspire me.

    Great blog FEd.

[Thanks very much, Siôn. (Good Welsh name, that.) – FEd]

  18. Thanks for the independent store listings Fed. It is good of you to take the time to really look out for us and in doing so help other people along the way!

I remember Crosby and Nash saying David only keeps the best people around him and you are a fine example of this!

I am really excited about purchasing the new release and will be shopping for the best deal.

Thank you David for the new music and for Fed!

[You lot make me laugh sometimes. Thank you, Barbara. You’re my new favourite. – FEd]

  19. [But I have not that exclusive choice to make, so…yes…the 5-disc set will be perfect! -Michèle]

Too much…I think I’ll go for the 3 disc set. Even if the fifth disc of live recordings from the tour is attractive.

  20. Hi,

I will buy all versions from different countries, anyone else too?

Collecting music is the best hobby there is. 😉

  21. [You lot make me laugh sometimes. Thank you, Barbara. You’re my new favourite. – FEd]

Glad to hear it Fed. Laughter can heal the soul and clear the mind!

And to be your new favorite, oh my my my! My life is now complete! (Ha Ha! Dear Fed, you are a treasure!)

Sometimes at the end of my day, if I am in a hurry and just have a moment to glance at the blog, I scroll down and just read your comments. This is reading at its finest, you never disappoint.

Have a good weekend my Friend!

[Yes, you’re definitely my new favourite. – FEd]

  22. Just catching up on this thread.

I’m glad that fans in Japan will have a shorter wait than last time! Two months?! That was very mean of Sony.

I also voted for the CD, although I will love the DVD of course. I plan to watch it with some candles and wine – when hubby’s out!

  23. i’m shocked at the results of the poll. this is supposed to be a live album!

i like to close my eyes when i play music. you can concentrate on the music better without the visual distraction of a concert.
