RTN on 3sat

'Remember That Night' coverJust to let you know, footage from David’s ‘Remember That Night’ DVD is being shown on 3sat tomorrow afternoon.

So, if you’re in Europe and know of anyone who has yet to see what wonders David and the band produced at the Royal Albert Hall in 2006, possibly because you won’t lend them your DVD, let them know what they’ve been missing all these months.

3sat is available on ASTRA 19° in the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Latvia, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Morocco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, the UK and the Canary Islands.

It’s on at 13:30 (CET). If you catch it, do let us know.

The chatroom is open today between 14:00 and 16:00 (UK).

  1. David Gilmour tour for Europe: Italy, Germany, France, Ireland, etc…… and Spain???????

Spain is part of Europe, not just. I fear deception. 🙁 🙁 🙁

I am a big fan of David Gilmour and Pink Floyd.

    One solution for my question.

[Sorry, Luis. Maybe one day. I hope you’ll be lucky. – FEd]

  2. Hello FED!

I have gotten to know about this television show a few days ago and I am looking forward to it. I am intent to know which songs they chose for broadcasting.

I wish you and all bloggers a nice prolonged weekend (May 1st is a national holiday in German speaking countries).

    With best wishes from Berlin
    Ina

    [Enjoy it, Ina. – FEd]

  3. Hi FEd!

The technician in me is coming out a little…. 😉

3sat on Astra is free on air in many European countries (click my name).

In most of these countries a 60cm-dish should be good for a downlink.

    Have a nice day

    Herbert

[Excellent news, Herbert. Thanks for the update. So make that: “If you’re in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Latvia, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Morocco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, the UK or the Canary Islands…” – FEd]

  4. Funny news in Italian newspapers today: the pig on the wing flew away! As in 1977. (Click my name.)

I don’t translate the news, ’cause you can find it in any language, on the internet.

Wow, $10.000 if you find it and give it back. I know how to spend my weekend, now! But I have to confess: if I find the pig, I am not sure I will give it back. It’s too wonderful! And Animals is the album I am most fond of.

    Hunting is open!

    Lucia

  5. [Please God, let them win… – FEd]

God? LOL! Surely Torres would be more efficient than God to make them win, don’t you think?

  6. As part of the David Gilmour segment, they will ONLY broadcast these songs:

    On an Island
    Shine on You Crazy Diamond
    Fat Old Sun
    Coming Back to Life
    Arnold Layne
    Find the Cost of Freedom
    Wish You Were Here

  7. On an Island
    Shine on You Crazy Diamond
    Fat Old Sun
    Coming Back to Life
    Arnold Layne
    Find the Cost of Freedom
    Wish You Were Here

This will be the playlist (found on 3sat.de).

  8. Fed, what would your CD be like or do you just not have the time or not as sad as us?

Out of random interest what would be your fave David solo? Would you go 4 the obvious ie: Comf Numb or would it be something more random/obscure?

Of course it’s none of my buisness, maybe you have to be impartial, just like u will be tonight before the match.

Well it looks like u have Man United, my boss is a massive Man United fan, never misses a match. He’s a bit nervous about going to Russia if The Pool get through, he’s expecting that love u have for each other to be a real problem. Do you think it will be? After all the Russian police are not like ours, they don’t mess about. I can see it all kicking off. Are you going? If so, apparently u have 2 get your Visa in soon or you will miss out.

I think from a neutral Liverpool v Man united would be better than the alternative.

Anyway good luck tonight. Hope you get a good Ref, mind you, you’re better off with a European ref than one of ours at the moment.

    Cheers.

[I have thought about this fantasy compilation, but it’s bloody difficult, isn’t it? Nothing beats the ‘Comfortably Numb’ solos for me. And I can’t comment on tonight’s game because I’m too afraid to tempt fate. I even considered buying red things in quantities of five in the supermarket this morning, just in case. (Just in case?) – FEd]

  9. For someone in a state of semi-retirement, David sure gets a lot of media attention.

It is a great time to be a fan.

  10. Yes… it’s me, Roger’s Pig.

I just had to get away!

The working conditions were awful, I was on minimum wage, the food was swill! I was covered in graffitti, I had to listen to the same set-list for almost two years…

I know there’s a $10,000 bounty on me and some concert tickets but I reckon this is the only safe place I can hide…

As I’m in hiding I’ll probably change my name to something apt like Cunningham (think about it).

So, if anyone asks, you haven’t seen me…

[It’s just a harmless joke, folks. (Pigs can’t type that well, particularly inflatable ones.) – FEd]

  11. damn, i missed the chat.

it’s fab that so many countries will be able to see this.

    good luck to liverpool tonight.

  12. “Pigs can’t type that well, particularly inflatable ones”

Actually, I have Oink recognition software on my Mac… 🙂

  13. [The working conditions were awful, I was on minimum wage, the food was swill! I was covered in graffitti, I had to listen to the same set-list for almost two years… – Roger’s Pig]

Ahah! So funny! That made me laugh a lot! I hope noone will find you, Roger’s Pig! LOL!

Pier, my friend, I hope you are reading the blog…today!

    😉 and Cheers

    Michèle

  14. The Pig post is hysterical. You are safe here :o)

In case any Americans are interested…The Liverpool game will be available on ESPN2 starting at 2:30 EST.

  15. It has been brought to my attention through local media that Roger’s Pig has suffered an unfortunate demise. He was found in pieces in a residential neighborhood, and rumor has it that he took his own life to avoid capture…

When the Pig Broke Free…it was a miserable evening in Black ’08…

  16. i actually found the pig, tied it to the antenna of my car; the pig is floating right in front of my boss’ window.

  17. Hi Fed,

Funny joke about the pig- At least he doesn’t have to listen to Doyle Bramhall Part 2 this time…

As a side note, Albert Hoffmann, the ‘Father of LSD’ died at 102 years old. [Insert funny comment here.]

    Have a great day all,
    Mike

  18. CAPTION:

David’s one-off gig to raise money for Lilliputian and Blefuscudian orphans was a huge success…

  19. Ciao, Ciao Michèle.

That’s the second pig who runs away from Pink Floyd, and/or RW….. Yeah, I think the job was crap and freedom is better than anything else.

Anyway it seems that it’s the RW pig which flies away. The DG one liked his job. He worked during the Pink Floyd tour of 1989. You have to know that when PF split, RG took the pig “concept” as part of the package (copyrights). So In Monza, in 1989, I saw the other pig. THAT pig had a huge….errr…how to say? Penis….and …well…yes, I am not joking. That was the clear difference between the two pigs…

  20. by the way , according to yahoo news , the pig was found deflated and in shreds in La Quinta, California, by 2 neighbours . they have gotten a reward from the concert organisers . roger waters’ shows will be pig-less for a while until he can replace the pig .

i am sorry to see that liverpool lost . was it jimmy greaves that said football is a funny old game ? infuriating is more the word sometimes .

sorry i missed the chat today . will talk to you soon .

    peace
    Linda

  21. And I am reading Mark Blake’s “Pigs might fly” (rather good by the way) – surely more than a coincidence.

Do you think it will reach the Bahamas ? There’s a stiff breeze blowing just now …

Unlucky F’ed – but believe me it’s better this way .. I don’t think our household could have coped with THAT final …

  22. Hard luck to Liverpool. Good game. I thought you should have had a penalty.

[Ah, penalties. We had two against Everton earlier in the season, and Arsenal should have had one against us in the quarter finals, of course, so I can’t complain about that. (I choose to ignore the highly dubious, oh-so costly penalties awarded to West Ham and Chelsea at this point, because I feel rotten enough as it is today.) – FEd]

  23. I’m not going to gurn, but what is it with Chelsea players standing 5 yds from a corner kick?????

    Next year, Fed!!!

[More strange decisions from the referee and his assistants… – FEd]

  24. Hello Piggy Cunningham,

I spotted you overhead Battersea Power Station on Second Life, but hey, here you are, in Real Life 🙂

I’m sure FEd will let you hide in the Barn if you ask him nicely. You’ll have to promise not to do any flying though. We don’t want

    1. people thinking Floyd is getting together/on the road again
    2. trouble with Heathrow because you didn’t keep an eye on your altitude

FEd tends to wield pointy sticks at the unruly ones, and those don’t go well with inflatable piggies. So remember, no flying.

While you are there, you might see some dancing action in the Barn. That’s just us Bloggers. Don’t be alarmed by it.

    I’ll check on you regularly,
    Ralph

  25. I guess I’ve missed the boat with posting my fave Gilmour bits CD. Oh well.

It’s kept changing from hour to hour anyway but I have to say Rudders’ CD title was the bees knees (Magnets & Miracles).

Liverpool could have done with a few last night, commiserations Fed.

Perhaps I should have called my CD The Bees Knees.

[You can still send in your setlist, if you wish. You can leave a comment at any topic which still has a comment form. – FEd]

  26. Dear Fed.

We were somewhat amused to read a headline in the business pages of a National paper: “Fed Reluctant to give Signal on how much Farther it Might Go” at least not until nearer September, or was it the distance covered by the pig!

Great idea regarding the David composite cd. Old and new Echoes, Comfortably Numb, Pulse, RAH (Rick), AOL Sessions, Fat Old Sun, Shine On, Blue, Smile (a great one to drive to when swerving to avoid speed bumps!), basically anything and everything by the Lord of the Strings…apologies to whoever I nicked that from but it will give us at least a trilogy!

Have a great weekend everyone and thank you F’ed for continuing to keep us amused…we missed all this earlier in the year……

    Thanks, Heather

  27. I just saw the concert on 3sat a few minutes ago, but what I didn’t like was that it was so short! It was only about 45 minutes. And there was no Comfortably Numb, the song I like so much!

    But still excellent!

    Best wishes,
    Felix Dürringer

  28. [He was found in pieces in a residential neighborhood. – Angelo Ortiz]

    Ahh yes!..Roadkill on the barbie.

  29. Rest In Peace, Albert Hofmann
    Jan 11, 1906 – Apr 29, 2008

Albert Hofmann was born in Baden, Switzerland in 1906. He graduated from the University of Zürich with a degree in chemistry in 1929 and went to work for Sandoz Pharmaceutical in Basel, Switzerland. There, Hofmann worked with Mediterranean squill (Scilla maritima) for several years, before moving on to the study of Claviceps purpurea (ergot) and ergot alkaloids.

Over the next few years, he worked his way through the lysergic acid derivatives, eventually synthesizing LSD-25 for the first time in 1938. On April 19, 1943, he decided to verify his results by intentionally ingesting 250 ug of LSD. This day has become known as “Bicycle Day” as Hofmann experienced an incredible bicycle ride on his way home from the lab.

Albert Hofmann retired as Director of Research for the Department of Natural Products. He continued to write, lecture until his quick and relatively painless death from a heart attack at the age of 102.

  30. Bring them on…those “Pig” stories from the creative bunch; they are hilarious.

I wonder what Guy Pratt has to say about the “Pig”.

I remember some old saying about laughter being the best medicine, especially for the heart, and I thank you all for making me laugh so hard today.

  31. I feel as though I have been in a long sleep and am kicking myself for not paying more attention and missing a DG tour and a RW DSOTM tour. I went back to school and haven’t had time for much else besides work, study and raising the family. The DVD will have to tide me over for now, which by the way is excellent.

My question is what happened to Nick on this collaboration? I noticed his brief appearances on the DVD but no noticeable involvement in the project. Does anyone know the details?

PS. The guest appearance of “The Bloggers” was great to see…congrats to all.

    Regards,
    Rip Van Winkle

[Well, David had a great drummer in Stevie Di Stanislao. That’s pretty much it, really. – FEd]

  32. I’d hate to beat a dead pig, but….

    “When the Piggie Broke Free”

It was just after dusk one miserable evening in Black ’08
When the Piggie handlers were told to hang tight
When they asked that their Pig be withdrawn…
And the Managers gave thanks while the piggie ranks
    Held back old Roger’s Pig….for awhile….
And the Coachella stunned fans were spelled for the price
    Of a few dozen…Piggie lines….

And kind old King David sent Roger…. a note
When he heard that Piggie was gone
It was, I recall, in the form of a song ’bout “The Blue” and all…
And Rog’ heard it one day in room with Floyd photographs hidden away
And his still eyes grow damp to remember his Piggie’s “2008 Obama” stamp

It was dark all around, there was dew on the ground
    When the Piggie broke free
It did not survive–it committed suicide over “Via Capri”
It is now strips of swine, latex and dead, but everyone’s laughing…laughing…laughing…
And now poor old Roger’s band won’t have Piggie…for “Sheep”…
