Fan art

Portrait of David Gilmour, by LizIn calling for your photographs last week (Fan photos, 7 March), it was a real pleasure to also get to see some of your artwork.

Here’s what Liz sent in. You can click David’s portrait to see a slightly larger version.

If you’re a budding artist with anything of obvious relevance to The Blog, and if you can get your work online, perhaps using one of the many free image hosting websites, please let me know where I can find it. It would be lovely to see what you’ve done.

Simply include its URL with your comment and I’ll randomly select and display my favourites over the coming weeks.

No links to entire galleries, please.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Liz. You have quite a talent!

  1. Liz, you have captured David’s lovely features really well. What a very good drawing indeed.

    Best regards.

    Julie.

  2. Wow, Liz. Nice portrait!

Trust me: nobody wants me to try to do any artwork and submit it to this Blog. My attempts at art always look suspiciously like ink smeared across paper.

Re: my comments on Dortmund: F’Ed, I suspected that the comment might not have been appropriate. I don’t remember what I wrote, but I absolutely defer to your good judgement on that matter. You have a good sense of what belongs here and what doesn’t, which has made this blog the safe place that it is. Thanks for keeping it that way.

[Thanks for being so understanding, Dan. Please keep the captions coming. I still get to laugh at them, even if nobody else sees them. – FEd]

  3. Wow Liz, what a talent!

I’ve printed it out and put it up on the wall alongside KC drummer’s OAI masterpiece from last year!

    Paul 😉

  4. Oh, I didn’t think I could send a drawing… Well, I am working as an illustrator, and ten years ago, while I still was at my art school, I had the opportunity to make this one : […]

I can’t remember if the teacher liked it or not…

[Very nice, Frédéric. Thanks for that. – FEd]

  5. here’s mine again, hope that’s ok. […]

    cheers

    [Fine by me. – FEd]

  6. Liz, that is awesome. I wonder what his age was then?

(By the way fed, this site was acting up with me today too, it wasnt showing the bottom of page where you post. It took a couple of refreshings to work, thought you would like to know.)

[I’ve been doing some tinkering today, so please excuse any erratic behaviour. – FEd]

  7. Liz: you are really an artist I don’t know which is your job but if the drawing is only a hobby, you are very talented anyway!

Thank you for sharing, both Liz and F.ed. and..it’s very nice the idea of the flashback about the gigs!

    keep well
    ciao Elisabetta

  8. You capture the kindness, the charm and the sensuality of the eyes and the mouth, I congratulate you.

    Patricia

  9. Liz,

What an amazing portrait! You have a great talent.

Back in 1987 I did a charcoal drawing of the young boy on U2’s “War” album cover. It was O.K. I guess. I had it framed and gave to a long time friend who was living in Alaska at the time. I wonder where it is now?

    Sincerely,
    Cevin

  10. whats with the deja vu with tracy’s post?

whats with the deja vu with tracy’s post?

sorry i was watching monty pythons flying circus last night with the deja vu sketch, and the highjacked plane to luton sketch.

Really like liz’s drawing, are you a professional artist?

“oh, by the way” sorry about starting the whole ‘slip a song name into the sentence’ thing, it might have got a bit out of hand, so sorry FEd if i took it too far.

[No need, mate – and thanks for spotting the duplicate post. – FEd]

  11. ^^ That is absolutely fantastic Liz! Perhaps i should try my hand at blog related artwork…but what to do…I’m not so good at portraits. Suggestions anyone?

Anyways, Congrats on your work Liz! Keep it up!

  12. Liz, your portrait of David leaves me breathless!

Are you schooled in drawing or is this a natural talent? Either way, holy smokes! I’m blown away by your talent!

    Kudos,
    Dirwood

  13. Hi Liz,

this is a nice drawing, indeed…

Although the contrast on the left side is too hard IMHO and makes the face seem a bit as a mask, you got the expression of the eyes perfect.

I’d love to see this in a higher resolution!

Keep drawing, you surely have talent!

    Best regards,

    Taki

  14. lol! Wonderful. I have no more words.

Yep! I’ll add this art to my favorites! 🙂

  15. that’s a really nice piece Liz!

must have taken a while, but well worth it

I think you could make money selling prints!

how is everyone FE’d? hope all is well at DGHQ
    andy.

    [All’s well, thanks. – FEd]

  16. Dear FEd,

I can’t tell how I’m grateful to you and how I’m truly honored to see my modest artwork on the site. What a great surprise! Thank you for your and of course the other kind Bloggers’ heartwarming words! I’m speechless.

I’m not a professional artist, unfortunately this is just my hobby. I just restarted the drawing last year after 10 years of dull workdays. I make – of course 🙂 – mainly Pink Floyd portraits.

I think after this I must hurry with my half-ready drawings about Mr. Gilmour.

  17. Wow! Liz this is one of the nicest portraits i have seen of David. His lips, his eyes, everything is really him with good proportion. You are surely a professional…

    Congratulations again!

Very good idea FEd to publish artwork / photos of the Bloggers!

    Cheers,

  19. Dear Fed,

your drawing is absolutely brilliant, Liz…!

    Ikkar, with love

  20. Liz:

at the risk of being repetitive….I still have to say ‘Wow’. Fantastic drawing of David. You really have a wonderful sketching talent. Very professional. You really captured him.

[I’m glad that you like it, Therese. There are no plans to release it as a single, if that’s what you mean, but it is available on the following DVDs: ‘David Gilmour In Concert’, ‘A Tribute to Leiber and Stoller’, ‘A Tribute To The King’. Please click your name above to find out more about ‘David Gilmour In Concert’. – FEd]

    Your Friend,

  25. Fed, I have tried to post the tattoo to you of wireman on my back/shoulder blade and it just doesn’t want to do it. Do you have any Ideas on what to do?

    Take Care,
    Thomas

[Have you put it online? If so, can you tell me the address/URL? – FEd]

  26. Liz, I bet David and Polly will enjoy seeing this art as much as the rest of us have. Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent!

You picked a good one to get us started Fed. Please do keep them coming!

    Barbara

  27. O.K. Fed, i have just seen the C.L. draw, one of us will be smiling, i hope im smiling along with your boss come the end of April, just like liz’s pic.

[I hope you’re both feeling miserable after the second leg at Anfield, Graham, but that Arsenal then go on to win the Premiership. (You can have the league game in the middle, how’s that?) – FEd]

  28. Interesting interpretation Liz. A very good likeness, especailly the eyes. Makes me think, I wonder what David is thinking. Where was the source of your inspiration I wonder?

    Ian Pearson

  29. Be careful this weekend…

There will be a lot of very drunk Welsh Rugby Fans out there…

We know Simon is always that way but this weekend is a special case so be kind to them if you find one.

Wales have already won the Triple Crown and are playing for the Six Nations Championship and Grand Slam…

    Cymru am Byth!

  30. Beautiful, beautiful work, Liz! I’m so glad you submitted that! You are so talented!

  31. Liz, your drawing is fabulous, and the subject is gorgeous;^) I’m always amazed when an artist can put life into the eyes — that takes a special talent. You’ve certainly accomplished that!

FEd, thanks for sharing Liz’s drawing with us! I think there are a lot of people going through some funky times right now — the beautiful drawing of David is certainly a welcome distraction, at least for me!

Peace ‘n’ love to you all!
    Gabrielle

  32. Fantastic Liz! Those eyes – those lips look so real, it’s like he might just start talking any minute now!

I really wish I could draw like that! Sigh!

  34. [Where was the source of your inspiration I wonder? – Ian Pearson]

Without wishing to take anything away from Liz and her delightful drawing of David.

If you ask me it’s all “About Face”, well a photo on the inner sleeve looks very similar.

Liz your Rich(ard) talents manifest themselves in many ways, I salute you.

  35. Hi, Liz. I had heard that you do beautiful drawings but…wow! I didn’t expect them to be this good. Well done!!!

    Becky

  36. This is going to be an interesting time on the blog (“what’s new” they cry) if we’re going to be treated to artworks and photos as good as this.

    Nice idea, F’ed old chap.

It seems to me that David and Polly will probably enjoy this more than our usual chuntering …

I presume we will see a suitably addled F’ed after the Grand Slam – and I’m seriously worried for the sake of Simon’s liver.

[I’m always addled, me. – FEd]
