Australian DVD release

February, 2007: Jamming at David's Barn. Photo: Polly Samson.IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: ANOTHER DATE (27/09/07)

Sorry about this. Sony have decided that ‘Remember That Night’ will now be in shops in Australia on Saturday 29 September, and not today, as they originally said (well, originally it was supposed to be last Saturday, of course).

Apologies for the obvious disappointment and inconvenience that this confusion has caused.

Third time lucky, as they say?

As promised, here’s another of Polly’s barn shots, along with a reminder to fans in Australia that ‘Remember That Night’ is released tomorrow – Thursday 27 September.

Apologies for the delay. We were expecting it to be in the shops on Saturday. We hope you find that it was worth waiting for.

I told you on Monday that ‘Remember That Night’ is already Number One in Italy and the UK. It’s now sitting pretty at the top of the Music DVD charts in Austria and France, as well.

The chatroom is closed today, but will be open tomorrow from 11AM (UK). Everyone’s welcome, but please don’t come bounding in, hollering about where you can find the extra extras. You’ll find yourself swiftly escorted off the premises, with a ban, if you do.

The DVD is still new to many fans, so please respect their wishes to stumble upon any hidden secrets in their own time.

Thank you.

Please see the calendar for details of future chat sessions.

  1. Hi everyone, I haven’t been online for quite a while!

Nice pictures of the February rehearsals! David on the drums is a good one!

Extra extras? Am I missing something? Haha. *goes to find out*

  2. Hey Fed.

I just looked at the calendar and I think it’s only right that you’ve warned everyone about giving away secret’s of where they can find the extra’s as I noticed a few country’s are still waiting for the release.

There’s not much point in putting these thing’s on to suprise people if everyone tell’s you where to find them??

I loved the sudden suprise of sitting there and saying “hang on a minute, that isnt on the menu”
If you go around telling everyone where they are it kind of defeat’s the object a bit!!!

I dont think anyone would have had that feeling of ‘WOW’ if you’d posted a blog telling them “go here for this or there for that”,I know I wouldnt have had it anyway.

Take care Fed,have a great day

    Melanie

[I’m starting to like you more and more, Melanie. How long before someone gets kicked out of the chatroom tomorrow, do you think? Then complains bitterly about it when an easy apology is offered (and ignored). Then gets their friends to complain bitterly about it. Let’s see. – Features Editor]

  3. Are we allowed to take bets on how long it will take before someone complains that their free speech rights are being violated because they can’t talk about the extra extras on this site?

By the way, my apologies for having posted a comment on that last week, now that I know the rules of the road I’ll behave myself.

[Michael, please. Don’t go putting ideas in anyone’s head, for God’s sake. – Features Editor]

  4. Hello Fed!

Yes I can have a big mouth at times, but I know when to keep things a secret! I think it is very cool of you to allow newbies to the DVD to find the little secrets for themselves – you are one cool chap!

    Thanks for everything you do!

[Well, David would like people to discover these things for themselves, but you already knew that he’s cool, right? Apologies to some, but it’s still too early to ‘spill the beans’. – Features Editor]

  5. Hi Fed

You asked how long before someone drop’s a bomb and get’s kicked out of chat?

I reckon it’ll be an hour before someone ‘accidentally’ give’s something away! What about you??

    Melanie

[Half an hour, perhaps? Twenty minutes? – Features Editor]

  6. Hey Fed

Seriously,we can joke about this all night but, the sad truth is that someone will say something and not only will it spoil it for themselves (getting banned), it’ll spoil it for whoever is in the chat that hasnt seen the dvd yet!!

Hopefully they’ll understand that if it was them that hadnt seen it yet and someone gave something away they’d be pretty p***ed because I know I would.

  7. Hello,

Got my Anthill delivery Friday and spent the weekend checking out the incredible DVDs.

Our neighbors were curious about what compelled me to go to London for a DVD premier and I got to show them firsthand. They have an outdoor inflatable big screen/projection set up and Sunday night we watched quite a bit of the DVDs under the stars.

It was awesome! We were all blown away by the quality of the performance and production – it was the next best thing to being at the show.

We really enjoyed the music and behind-the-scenes footage and I was happy to prove I wasn’t the nutter next door, but that DG’s music is worth traveling the globe to see!

The menus are nice to watch unfold, with lots of great choices. I really enjoy reliving the concert, but the up-close filming provides a much better seat than I had in Oakland. The details are amazing of the band members, especially DGs expertise on the guitars.

Can’t pick a fav song, they all invoke nice feelings, but my kids like to dance around with a hip-sway to ‘This Heaven’ in particular.

The camaraderie of the documentaries was fun to watch. Excellent shots/footage also from DG’s big beautiful barn. My barn is full of cobwebs and dirt, but I do play DG/PF music when I’m mucking about and the horses, goats and alpacas don’t mind a bit 🙂

Many thanks to everyone involved with the DVD. Thanks also for making Christmas shopping easier this year since everyone will be getting a nice DVD to enjoy.

  8. (follow on from previous..)

The way I look at it is – If everyone’s going to tell you everything about the dvd what’s the point in buying it when you can close your eye’s and have someone read out what’s been said??

Reading or Watching??? I know what I’d prefer.

  9. £5 to the charity of your choice on 11.17am.

[You cynic, you. Only 17 minutes? – Features Editor]

  10. Folks, please don’t take what I said seriously about taking bets on people misbehaving, I’m just making fun of the situation.

In all seriousness, while I am the first to admit that I really want to talk about some of those goodies (not for bragging rights, mind you, but because they’re SO GOOD) it makes perfect sense to have a forum in which we can talk about the DVD and still not give too much away.

So I’ll wait patiently until the good folks at davidgilmour.com decide that everybody’s had a chance to find everything they need to find, then I’ll join in the conversation about just how incredible they are.

  11. My bet is on 15 minutes…….

I’m loving the DVD soooo much, but havent found any eggs yet, will keep on looking though……

[15 minutes, Emiel? Oh dear. Either my cynicism is highly contagious, or I’m right to be so doubtful. (By the way, I know I’m always right, so nobody has to tell me.) – Features Editor]

  12. Hi all. Congrats to Australia for finally getting the DVD. You’ll love it!

And Fed… you ARE someday going to point things out right??? I’m apparently too retarded to find anything beyond the obvious on my own… I’m dying to know…

    Tim

[When the time is right, all will be revealed. – Features Editor]

  13. I guess I am a dinosaur, when it comes to finding secrets on a DVD. How does this work, I mean without telling the secrets?

…maybe I should ask my son?

    Cheers,
    Ernest

[You have to select things, Ernest. Don’t rely on that naughty ‘Play All’. – Features Editor]

  14. [How long before someone gets kicked out of the chatroom tomorrow, do you think? Then complains bitterly about it when an easy apology is offered (and ignored). Then gets their friends to complain bitterly about it. Let’s see. – Features Editor]

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, Fed.

    Michèle

[Oh, you love it really. – Features Editor]

  15. Hey…maybe its been asked before, but….whats up with the signature Fender that was going to released now…? if theres a delay….why?

[It’s still being released, this is likely to be before the year is out, and we’ll have more news next week (hopefully). Apologies for the delay, but, as you should all know by now, things aren’t released until they’re absolutely ready and as good as they can possibly be. Nobody wants to keep you waiting, but nobody wants to see a half-hearted guitar on the market, either. It will be worth waiting for, I assure you. Since when has David ever let you down? – Features Editor]

  16. I got the dvd – woooohhaaaaa…..watching it over and over (and over) again….my friends were here the other day, we got drunk and watched the concert – and finally I was able to say – people, I WAS THERE!!! So that was my first (and quite possibly the last) chance to hear David Gilmour live….

As for surprises, next time you can make adventure game (like Myst) 🙂

Going to see Bryan Ferry on October 7th….hope it will be fun…hey, Fed, do you know if Guy is playing with him? If he does, we’ll make a Guy Pratt our idol banner – if not, that’ll be pretty stupid 🙂

[I’ve no idea, sorry. Guy’s site should provide more detail. Click your name. – Features Editor]

  17. – [You have to click things, Ernest. Don’t rely on that Play All. – Features Editor]

You said that at 8:53PM today ! Till tomorrow 11AM, there are 14h 7 minutes !

So, neither 30, 17, nor 15 minutes, but (-)14 hours, 7 minutes !!!! you have won but you are banned !!!

    – Very happy to see RTN on the top of the Music DVD charts in France ! you too, Patoch’ ?

    Michèle

  18. Chat, chat. I’m jonesing for a chat. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll stop twitching nervously in my chair..

I’m betting everyone will be well behaved. At least 45 mins before the first one gets the boot.

  19. [You have to select things, Ernest. Don’t rely on that naughty ‘Play All’. – Features Editor]

This is a good clue if you will.

I think part of the issue is that people don’t know HOW to go about finding the surprises. It’s not that they don’t want to find them.

For some they don’t think of scolling around a screen or looking for something unusual. They just put the darn thing in the machine and hit play.

Face it, don’t we all know people who had issues setting the clock on their VCR, let alone programing it to record a show??

And how many of us actually took the time to listen to the Wall backwards so that we could find the secret message??

Back in the 1970s, Monty Python actually released an LP that had 3 sides to it. I remember listening to it and all of a sudden realizing I was hearing something completely different than the last time I played it. They actually recorded another side between the grooves of side 2. You had to play with the placement of the needle to get into the other groove. So I came upon this discovery completely by accident.

But I’m with you on not saying anything regarding the actual content. And I think it is difficult to guide people without actually spelling it all out. BUT, I think your statement above is about as close as you can get.

    Thanks.

    Andrew

  20. Sarcasm is also a sign of high intelligence my MENSA endowed Fedmeister 🙂

And just so no-one starts any silly rumours Signature Fender Stratocaster is not an anagram of Pink Floyd Reunion Tour…

And my take on the hidden extras is that if you can find a gold key under the rock a goblin will appear and transport you to the next level…

  21. Hopefully I will make it into chat this week…Thank you Fed for not allowing people to spoil the dvd goodies. It is almost like unwrapping many xmas presents. LOL

I am glad to try to find them on my own, then when the time is right have them all revealed to me.

    Thanks again,
    Renee B.

  22. These `Barn` shots are fantastic, a perfect compliment to a brilliant well deserved number one DVD.

I must say, I`m a little surprised to read some disaproving comments for Bowie`s version of CN. I thought he made the song `his own`.

  23. [How long before someone gets kicked out of the chatroom tomorrow, do you think? Then complains bitterly about it when an easy apology is offered (and ignored). Then gets their friends to complain bitterly about it. Let’s see. – Features Editor]

7 MINUTES MAX! That’s my prediction!! Let’s start a pool; and the proceeds can go to CRISIS.
You know, this could have been a great contest, FEd!

Thing is, you know that some people don’t even read what FEd writes, and they WILL come barrelling in and blabbing; just as FEd predicted.

    It’ll happen; Guaranteed!

Gee, FEd, I hope you’ll be there at the chat; OH! And don’t forget to bring your pointy stick, as it will surely be necessary!!! (Don’t you feel like you’re the teacher & we’re the “kids”??) Unruly kids at that!!! LOL

I’m tempted to set my alarm so that I can watch things unfold; and see who’s prediction is the closest!! FEd, please mark the “time” that this person gets banned, so we’ll know who the winner of this ‘contest’ would have been!! Much funnier than Blotto, isn’t it?? And it’s got to be much easier!!

  24. For some of those extras you have to be very focused and very quick. I figured out where was what I wanted to see, but wasn’t quick enough. Took me 15 minutes to do the right thing…(that’s why comfortably dumb suits me better than great pig in the sky – though I could use a diet 🙂 )

  25. Superb DVD! Thanks for Mr. Gilmour to set the standards again.

    “The Barn” pictures are great!!!

Does the Gilmour clan have any farm animals? Cows, pigs or chickens perhaps?

  26. BTW FEd, I was VERY happy to see your name in the list of credits on the DVD booklet!!

Is your real name “FEd”??? Did you change it legally?? LOL

Anyway, well done, my friend, and deservedly so!!

    (Is that short for Federick??)

  27. Caption…(David instructs Richard during Echoes rehearsal to get it perfect)

    “Your turn..my turn..your turn..my turn…”

Hey F.E…Did you hunt down RTN’s easter eggs on your own or did you rely on inside information?..just wondering…

[Inside information? What’s that? Sounds a bit dodgy. – Features Editor]

  28. [(By the way, I know I’m always right, so nobody has to tell me.) – Features Editor]

Of course you are FEd, and my bet on the “extra extras” is maybe 15 to 20 mins…

Glad to see that you’re getting a few chats started up again FEd. I might be able to make it…I know it’s pretty early in the morning for me, but I get up at 5:30 anyways, so see you there!

[Rather you than me, Kim. – Features Editor]

  29. 11:35 am (UK), but (just like Stratego, Monopoly, and the like) I’m horrible at these things…

This DVD is really something else. You folk in Australia are in for a treat. I’m looking forward to spilling all the beans tomorrow…

What? I’m Dominican, love rice and beans, and am clumsy?

  30. Congratulations David and Co. for your DVD being Number 1 in the U.S. (like there was any doubt, with the special ones from Borders and Best Buy).

I’ve not been able to watch the entire of disc 1 or disc 2. Good lord there is a lot!!!! Thank you again for that. However, I absolutely love Dark Globe, C.Numb and Wish You Were Here and the extras.

Thank you David, for sharing the latin for Scabbard!! LOL. Knew that from watching the Discovery Channel, but quite entertaining hearing part of the discussion on the boat.

  31. Helooooo!?!?!?!? It’s Michael down here…from Australia. Remember Australia? It’s the country that Dave DIDN’T tour last year.

Not only that, but we get promised the DVD on 22/09 (later than most countries), then the release date gets put back to 27/09 (today) and guess what…still no sign of the DVD in our record stores. The only thing I get from the shop assistants is “Who’s David Gilmour? Do you spell that G-I-L-M-O-R-E?”

Getting rather impatient down here! Can anyone show me some light at the end of the tunnel and promise a sighting of the DVD before Christmas?

[According to Sony, it would be released today. Sorry about this, Michael. – Features Editor]

  32. Hi there Fed

Still no sign of the Aussie release today at the city stores in Brisbane ..

I wonder when record companies will get their act together?

    cheers
    Ben.

[You know, I ask myself that every day. I’m very sorry for the disappointment this is causing. As soon as I get an answer, I’ll let you know. I realise that that just means another date on the calendar, another trip to the stores… Again, apologies for the uncertainty. – Features Editor]

  33. The DVD is selling in Moscow (Russia) since last Friday.

One of the most impressive things is that there is a secret video, and it’s absolutely astounding!!!

    Thanks for it!

  34. I didn’t have a clue about the added surprises. There are some dedicated fans to let us all know about them later. I’m hoping some are not found to keep us intrigued.

By the way, the cover shot of RTN is from “Coming Back To Life”if it hasn’t been mentioned lately. The lights match up perfectly.

  35. Hooray and “Didn’t they do well”?

I just read on the latest news here that the new DVD is also No. 1 on the music chart in the U.S. – congratulations David Gilmour and company.

Thanks for the updates and Happy Thursday!

  36. Watched DVD again last night on my ecconomy DVD player and 21 inch Low Definition non flat TV screen and have to say how simply great it is and that one doesnt need to own fancy technology to appreciate fine art.

And yes I found many “eggs” even with my “stone-age” equipment. All you need is desire and patience.

Dont reveal anything for say six months FEd. I even saw myself (not an “egg”) fumbling around at back of Glasgow gig completely oblivious to David arriving.

    Ian Pearson

PS Agree with Alex’s comment on “Pink Floyd is dead” but be wary of bereavement fall-out.

  37. Lovely barn. The perfect place to get inspired and record really loud..!

    Thanks for the pictures, Polly.

  38. I haven’t posted for ages. Glad to see Fed is on form!!

Loved the DVD’s. Brought back some great memories of the Albert Hall show that me and the Missus were lucky enough to get to. Thought the second disc is good as well. The Band look as though they really had a great time… the Gilmour children certainly did.

Bemused by all the talk about secret bits on the DVD’s. I will have to have a good look at the DVD’s again!

Nice one David et al. Enjoyed it very much.

Better get on with some work now!

  39. I love the Blog name “Comfortably Dumb,” by the way. Thanks for making me chuckle.

Re: “Extras.” Why do some people get off on spoiling it for others? It’s the same (in my feeble mind) as giving away the ending of the final “Harry Potter” book, just to rob others of the pleasure of discovering it for themselves (and there were lots of people who went out of their way to spoil it for the fans). Why would anyone think that’s fun?

I’ll tell you why I appreciate F’Ed’s efforts to let people discover these things for themselves. It’s because , although I started a new job in early September, the first paycheck rolls in tomorrow. I ran out of money a few weeks ago and have been unable to purchase the DVD (not wanting to use my credit card until after I get paid). So, my first chance to see the DVD is this coming weekend. There’s a lot of material to keep me going for a while, but it’s much more interesting because at any moment I might stumble on something good.

So, F’Ed, thanks for all that you do. And, to those who would take away my chance to find something, please stay far away from me!

  40. [Hah, I’ve just changed my mind on that last comment regarding a PF reunion. It would be good, wouldn’t it?]

    Dear Alex

    NOT ‘ARF!!!!!!

    LET’s PLAY FANTASY PINK FLOYD:

“David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Rick Wright and Nick Mason support Jon Carin”, is your fantasy line up. I would say that I can’t see Nick Mason doing it as he wasn’t that bothered, re DVD, and still keep Stevie D as he’s lovely.

Hey, Fed, let’s open a book.

    Love
    Cori B xxxx

PS: If RW doesn’t want to do it, I’ll sit on him and you lot can tickle him until he gives in!

  41. Happy Happy Happy Thursday,

[Back in the 1970s, Monty Python actually released an LP that had 3 sides to it.]

So did Johnny Winter (anyone remember it ?)

    Pete – Coventry

  42. Re the extra’s, to me its like looking on the web for cheats to playstation games, whats the point of purchasing a game then ruining it by cheating? I bet somewhere someone has posted (not this site) how you can find the secret bits..or cheat.

Im happy to play this game, although knowing how thick i can be, i guess i will be getting pretty frustrated when i gather most other people have found it & not me

Meanwhile i shall continue to enjoy the DVD

  43. [For some of those extras you have to be very focused and very quick. I figured out where was what I wanted to see, but wasn’t quick enough. Took me 15 minutes to do the right thing…(that’s why comfortably dumb suits me better than great pig in the sky – though I could use a diet 🙂 )]

Purely by accident (and maybe it’s specific to my DVD machine), I discovered there’s also an easier way to find these and it doesn’t require you to have the reactions of somebody twenty years younger…..providing, that is, you like looking at […] and you can find the right button on your remote…..at least I think that’s what I did!!!

[That’ll get them wondering. – Features Editor]

  44. Hello, just for reading, I wanted to get into the chat-room but asks me to log-in.

    Where do I have to?

    Thanks & rgds from Argentina.

[Please click your name below. You’ll see CHAT ROOM on the left. You can see who is chatting at any given time. There’s a link to register and a link to the calendar, where all future chats are scheduled. Any problems, let me know. We hope you can join us there soon. – Features Editor]

  45. [And how many of us actually took the time to listen to the Wall backwards so that we could find the secret message?? – Andrew]

In the years when I was green, I always thought that it was Roger saying in the forward playing mode (i.e not backwards): “…and he is not supposed to be sick before six o’clock. Understand?” And I thought this fitted in neatly with “…and you may feel a little sick”.

“In a word overrun…and with these words, I can see clear through the clouds”.

    Best regards.

    Julie

  46. [You have to select things, Ernest. Don’t rely on that naughty ‘Play All’. – Features Editor]

FEd! shame on you. Ha, ha.

I have heard about one egg, but sadly I haven’t witnessed it yet. My hubby is buying the DVD for me on Friday, he will let me watch on Friday and then he will wrap it up for Christmas. So that is a good compromise.

    Best regards.

    Julie

  47. Dear Fed

Just loved the chatroom. It’s fast and furious (just like you and me(!))

If I keep this mac I will see you tomorrow afternoon, I may just keep it until Saturday as it’s over £2500.

    What shall I do?

    Love
    Cori xxxxx

  48. Apologies… I missed the chat…

Hope it went well and no-one dropped a b*llock!

[Bets were called off after the half-hour mark. I thought it only fair. – Features Editor]

  49. The chat…

Maybe a game of buzzword bingo would have been fun…

    The Buzzwords being:

    1. DVD
    2. Awesome
    3. Quality
    4. Sound
    5. Lasers
    6. Albert
    7. Audience
    8. Cinema

[As Roy Walker used to say on Catchphrase, “It’s good, but it’s not right.” It’s very close, though. Wait until you see what’s coming at 3PM (UK). Cori, have your Spooky List ready. – Features Editor]

  50. Caption Competition

David was still upset that he had sold the Astoria but the Galleon he bought in its place had much more space and better acoustics…

  51. Wait until you see what’s coming at 3PM (UK)….

So now you know my hidden webcam is working again… damn!

[That’s a terrifying thought, Rudders. Really. – Features Editor]

  52. I registered my nick and changed my password, accessing to “chat” it asks me for username, password (that I already have) and a “chat room password”.

(I’m sorry for asking this, but I don’t want to lose tomorrow’s chat).

    Thanks.

[You won’t. Your registration is fine. The chatroom is now closed and open only to those who know the room password (we often have ‘lock-ins’ where fans can stay behind to chat after closing time). Please check your e-mail, as well as our calendar for opening/closing times. – Features Editor]

  53. [Back in the 1970s, Monty Python actually released an LP that had 3 sides to it.]

That sounds very interesting. Can you tell me the title of that LP, Andrew?

  54. [So now you know my hidden webcam is working again… damn!]

    LOL

Rudders – You used to live where I live didnt you. (well, actually you have lived in a lot of places)

Did you notice a certain footy result last night ???

    Pete – Coventry

  55. Hi there, I’m new to this.

I’d thought I’d introduce myself, the name’s Adam Giadresco and I’m from Australia.

I happened to come across Pink Floyd in my earlier times when I was growing up. I saw the name on this guy’s house out in the country and on its side it said ‘Pink Floyd – The Wall’ in the same gesture as the front album cover. I checked who Pink Floyd was years later as a teenager and I found them to be absolutely mind-blowing, generally the albums ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, ‘Wish You Were Here’ and of course ‘The Wall’.

My interest in the band solidified when I saw them perform at Live 8, the event strikes me something different while witnessing it. It felt like I was witnessing history had been made, of course, Roger Waters reunited after 24 long years. Again the band really did put out a great show.

After the show finished, the media gave more pestering questions concerning the fate of Pink Floyd and will they ever perform again? It was through those interviews I learned of David Gilmour’s solo record ‘On An Island’ although I didn’t listen to the record til this September.

As I listened to the record I had felt a lot of colours in my life again when he sang and played so gracefully and the very beautiful performances on the stage the backing musicians gave. He was also at the same time enchanting and very friendly and I found myself feeling so embarrassed (in good faith) by his easy-going attitude and he had a very sly sense of humour which he made me laugh.

I too plan to purchase a copy of ‘Remember That Night’ on DVD

I hope I didn’t bore everyone tired with this (laughs).

    Adam

[Nice to meet you, Adam. Welcome aboard. – Features Editor]

  56. [Back in the 1970s, Monty Python actually released an LP that had 3 sides to it.]

So did George Harrison… “All Things Must Pass”
    I believe?

  57. [LET’s PLAY FANTASY PINK FLOYD:]

    Hey Cori,

I would never kick out Guy for Roger. I told him to his face in Brixton that I thought he was the better bass player. I’ve never seen Roger attempt one of those wee scissor kicks and runs around the stage, but I’d like to see him try.

Guy has a lot of character and humility and I rate him very highly. The photo of my son and him is the wallpaper on wee Alex’s PC, he’s very proud of that.

I feel like I lit a match and dropped it here smoking yesterday evening. I half expected to come home from work and the site had burned down, if you know what I mean. A guilty conscious is a terrible thing, no wonder I left work an hour early so I could come home and read about whats been happening overnight.

Glad you’re all still here…. phew.

    Thanks

  58. Caption: After Rick played chopsticks for the 27th time, David fell asleep whilst still standing up.

  59. George,

Since you asked, it was “Monty Python’s Matching Tie and Handkerchief.”

    And to Julie,

There actually is a message on The Wall when you play Empty Spaces backwards. Roger says: “Congratulations. You have just discovered the secret message. Please send your answers to ‘Old Pink’, Care of ‘The Funny Farm’, Chalfont…”

Very humorous because at the time there was also a contingent of people that were convinced that rock and roll music had secret satanic hidden messages of occult and devil worship. So these people had nothing better to do than to listen to Stairway to Heaven backwards and then say that Plant was saying, “my sweet satan.”

And now there is a big debate because apparently there is also a difference between playing a vinyl record backwards versus playing an MP3 recording backwards.

The Wall message was intentional and is clear as day, the other ones are up for interpretation.

Personally, I have enough trouble finding time to enjoy my music collection forwards let alone worrying about what it is like backwards.

    Thanks.

    Andrew

  60. [So did Johnny Winter (anyone remember it ?) – Posted by: Pete – Coventry]

[So did George Harrison… “All Things Must Pass” I believe? – Posted by: Susan]

No and no, neither are the same as the Python release.

The Johnny Winter release was still two records but side 4 was totally blank. So it is 3 sides of recorded music on two LPs.

The George Harrison release was a triple LP, 3 separate records if you will. Hense 6 sides in total.

The Monty Python release was just one record. One side played normally. On the second side of the record there were two separate parallel grooves. So it depended on where you put the stylus as to what material you heard. O and by the way, to confuse thing even more, Python decided to label both sides of the record as “Side 2.”

Therefore, you think you only have two sides to play but one side had two tracks.

    How confused is everyone now???

    Thanks.

    Andrew

  61. what a bummer that is for australia. i feel for you. 🙁

to adam g: welcome! hope to hear from you again.

to thomas robinson: great caption! lol! i wonder how soon rick’s ‘chopsticks’ would get tiring.

  62. Riffing on the “LP with 3 sides” theme, Genesis did a variation of this in the 1970s.

The album titled “3 Sides Live” is just that: a 2-record set in which three sides are live. The fourth side was done in the stu-stu-studio (I couldn’t resist).

  63. Dear Alex.

Guy is fantastic and yes he is a much better bassman. But for old times sake, we should let Rog play unless the band ‘do a Syd’ on him and forget to pick him up!

I wonder what Robert Plant said to David at the Odeon? Now that’s one night when I would loved to have been a fly on the wall, and wonder what went thro David’s mind when Robert told him that Led Zep were reforming.

Do you think it made David nostalgic or did he think ‘oh my God!’ or just remain somewhat bemused?

    Love Cori xxx

  64. Hai,

The Begium TV had a nice comment about the dvd release at their journal!

    Really nice!

    Peace,
Nick from the lovely South of the Netherlands.

  65. [what went thro David’s mind when Robert told him that Led Zep were reforming]

Maybe ‘Oh Sh*t, not you lot as well’

  66. [The Monty Python release was just one record. One side played normally. On the second side of the record there were two separate parallel grooves]

    Hadn’t actually realised that.

    You learn something every day.

  67. Adam G…

Welcome to the Blog and no you didn’t bore me with your comments at all…

It’s so good to hear that the Live8 show re-ignited your interest in the band and now that you have DG’s On an Island you will have to get the eponymous David Gilmour and About Face CDs…

Be prepared to be mesmerised by the RTN DVD… oh mama will you enjoy it…

  68. Dear Alex.

I agree. Guy is fantastic and yes he is a much better bassman. But for old times sake, we should let Rog play unless the band ‘do a Syd’ on him and ‘forget’ to pick him up!

    Love Cori xxx

  69. [And to Julie, There actually is a message on The Wall when you play Empty Spaces backwards. Roger says: “Congratulations. You have just discovered the secret message. Please send your answers to ‘Old Pink’, Care of ‘The Funny Farm’, Chalfont…” – Andrew]

I know there is that Chalfont message on there, I heard it on my 4-track recorder many moons ago. But I did say when I was “green” that is before I actually heard the Chalfont message.

So again in the forward normal mode I heard and still hear Roger saying: “… and he is not supposed to be sick before six o’clock. Understand?”

I remember when I was listening to this track one day I wondered what was being said and when I turned my stereo up full blast and put my ear towards the speaker, that is what I heard. That was obviously before I knew about there being an actual backward overdub on the song.

  70. [- Very happy to see RTN on the top of the Music DVD charts in France ! you too, Patoch’ ?]

Hi Michèle, FED & all bloggers,

No, I didn’t know that new. This is great, and somewhere, normal. There’s a real work in this DVD set. Lots of extras DVD among double DVD set available today are finally very poor in “extra material” (multi angles view, ten minutes small interviews, one or two promotional videos & all these classical stuff only made to make more money bother me…).

In David Gilmour’s DVD set, there’s a real interest in the second disc for whoever interested by this artist. With it, we can experience the whole ‘On an island” journey, more than many other artists’world tours & it gives a real idea of how important were this album & this tour for whoever, Mr.Gilmour, the band, the crew, the fans or “DG website” bloggers.

…&, for me, the Pink Floyd’s P.U.L.S.E DVD was made in the same spirit.

I’m very happy for all the team involved in this very honest making of “Remember That Night” DVD set.

FRANCE loves very much David Gilmour’s & Pink Floyd’s work !

    Goodnight…& Biz to Michèle.

  71. Dear Cori

    RE: Ian Pearsons quote

[Agree with Alex’s comment on “Pink Floyd is dead” but be wary of bereavement fall-out.]

I knew this when I posted yesterday and have took heed. I just made a point, I didn’t want to start a war.

I honestly think doing it all again for old times sake would be a step backwards. This is as good as it gets, why would anyone want to change it? David’s still the undisputed champion of guitarists in my book, a true master in his chosen profession. Whatever he chooses to do, I fully support it and look forward to his next project. He said he wasn’t finished at Leicester Square and thats good enough for me.

PS I have already spoke to either yourself or someone in your company around the football table in the ritzy at kicking out time. You were gearing up for a long drive home if I remember correctly?

  72. Fed

Thanks for telling people to pull their heads in regarding the special extras. As we only get the DVD released tomorrow it would be nice to have a bit of fun trying to find hidden treasures.

I’m really looking forward to seeing it.

    All the best
    Charles

  73. [Now that’s one night when I would loved to have been a fly on the wall, and wonder what went thro David’s mind when Robert told him that Led Zep were reforming. – Cori Burns]

Robert Plant: …so Jimmy and I decided the time is ripe to get back together for this one occasion.

David Gilmour: Well, that’s good of you chaps. Good luck to you…

Robert Plant: Thank you! It’ll be great…

David Gilmour (to self): (Oh lord, but you’re singing like a constipated banshee these days? Pleeeease reconsider, for goodness sake….)

  74. Johnny Winter – who is he?

I have never heard of him.

    Love
Cori xxx (do you think he released a 3-sided LP cos no one had heard of him)!

  75. [Johnny Winter – who is he?]

Only one of the greatest living blues players.

His band were on directly before Pink Floyd at the Bath festival of 1970.

Led Zeppelin, along with loads of others, were also on at that festival.

    Pete – Coventry

  76. Johnny Winter is another gifted guitarist who came to fame in the 60s and early 70s but apparently is still active today as well.

For a while he had a band with his brother Edgar Winter. Edgar you may remember because he had that huge hit in the 1970s called “Frankenstein” as well as a few other notable songs such as “Free Ride” and “Keep Playing That Rock and Roll.”

Also, Johnny worked with Rick Derringer who later had a hit with “Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo” and also produced some of Edgar’s records. I don’t recall Johnny having any huge successful hits like his brother but he did release a few live albums that did very well as a whole. Seems Johnny also liked to cover many other performers songs too such the Stones, Chuck Berry and even did a version of Highway 61 Revisted by Dylan.

Hope that gives you a little insight.

    Thanks.

    Andrew

  77. I was going to put my thought’s forward about the whole ‘Pink Floyd’ thing but I decided against it.

All I will say though is this – This is the David Gilmour fansite!! NOT the Petition page for a reunion!!

  78. Just a quick question: were/are there easter eggs on P.U.L.S.E as well?

Havent found them then if there are……..

    Thanks!!

  79. [Thank you. In which case, I won’t correct ‘Kildare’]

Lol!! Nice one FEd! Quick as ever.

    I feel like a plum now…

Had a quick dash into the chat room – busy eh??

[No need to feel like a plum, mate. You can blame the blog for remembering your incorrect details and repeating the error. I have no excuse! – Features Editor]

  80. […&, for me, the Pink Floyd’s P.U.L.S.E DVD was made in the same spirit.- Patoch’]

Don’t want to start any controversy here, Patoch, but I don’t really think that PULSE was made in the same ‘spirit’ as ‘Remember That Night’.

I don’t feel in the making of PULSE as much enthusiasm, as much happiness, as much love, as much emotion, as much authenticity(?) as I feel in ‘Remember That Night’.

I think PULSE is a very professional and great realise, of course, but it has not the same ‘soul’ as RTN, sorry, I can’t express better…

Anyway, I have been delighted to watch PULSE when it came out, but, now, I don’t feel the need, nor even the envy to watch it again…

Vienne, yes, an unforgettable experience ! Will remember it all my life !

    Toutes mes amitiés.

    Michèle

  81. Saturday has just arrived, yes the 29th and it’s supposed to be in the shops today. I’d better get off my butt and go shopping.

I’ve been driving around listening to ‘On an Island’ all week driving my family crazy. There is some really beautiful music on this cd isn’t there. I played David’s earlier albums as well and now am really looking forward to the live dvd and hopefully cd to follow.

Fed thanks for your comment about chats. The times for next month are great. meet you all then.

    See you then
    Charles

[Please tell me that it really is in the shops this time, Charles. Please? – Features Editor]

  82. To rudders, victor, and FEd.

I’d like say thank you for your really kind words, i’m too shy a person to talk to and I really do believe the previous solo works and the DVD will be wonderful and magnificent to preview.

Have a nice weekend to you all 🙂

[Jump in with a comment whenever the urge takes you, mate. No need to be shy. – Features Editor]

  83. Hi Everyone,

First time here but, not the first time in knowing Pink Floyd.

David Gilmour sure has done it big this time with On an Island. My thumbs are up to him on that.

Michele I believe you’re right about the “soul” in Remember that Night, as compared to Pulse. I think Pulse is a very good Pink Floyd DVD but, I believe David is so much out of PF and now wants to show what “He” can do more so than doing old PF songs.

I hope to get in here more to keep up to date with everyone.

    Until next time

[We look forward to hearing more from you, Kevin. Thanks for joining in. – Features Editor]

  84. [I think PULSE is a very professional and great realise, of course, but it has not the same ‘soul’ as RTN, sorry, I can’t express better…]

    Hello FEd, Michèle & all,

Be sure, there’s no controversy about PULSE…I’m not the best one to talk about it.

“The Division Bell Tour” was a revolution for me. I saw Pink Floyd for the first time of my life in concert in 1994 in Bordeaux. It was an awesome experience, discovering a fantastic music & a great guitar player named David GILMOUR, combined with an amazing show (the work of Marc Brickman & Mark Fisher…the “2 M”…was great). Before that night, I only knew “Another brick in the wall”, “Money” & the singles that were “take it back” & “High Hopes” at that time.

After that night, I decided to buy my first guitar, a little fender stratocaster copy, & to learn playing guitar…Since this wonderful night I’m a great fan of Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, Roger Waters & Rick Wright work.

Last year I saw David in Vienne, last May, I saw Roger Waters playing “the Dark side of the moon” in Paris, 3 years ago, I saw the Pink Floyd’s “Interstellar” exhibition in Paris…I have fun & pleasure with all that concerns this band & its members.

But, I must admit that my preference goes to David Gilmour and all the emotion that brings to me his music and his guitar playing. There’s no doubt about it: “Remember that night” is a very much better project than PULSE.

You’re right, PULSE is a very professional release but not in the same soul that “RTN”. I only wanted to say that the wait for releasing the DVD version of PULSE was so long, that they’ve tried to satisfied the best way they can, with the material they had at that time, the Pink Floyd’s fans.

That was the meaning of my purpose and what I wanted to salute here.

No controversy so, but a lack of objectivity from me! 😉

Have a good Week end, et toutes mes amitiés également !

P.S. Pfiouuuu…c’est dur d’écrire anglais des fois (i.e.: it’s hard to write in english sometimes! )

[Nonsense! You make it look easy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. – Features Editor]

  85. Kevin and Patoch, I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one to think that RTN is far more moving and warmer than PULSE.

No problem, Patoch, le mot ‘polémique’ ne t’était pas du tout destiné, il visait plutôt ceux qui sont parfois prompts ici à réagir de façon toute aussi virulente que stérile …

I’m like you, I attended my first PF show in 1994 (in Chantilly), enjoyed it very much, but, then, saw David Gilmour twice in Paris in 2002 (semi acoustic concerts), and I enjoyed far much more his intimate concerts without all those crowd, lasers, pigs and fireworks, only David, his guitar, the music he liked to play, and friends on stage… less artificial, more ‘sincere’ (!!!)

Do you know the DVD ‘David Gilmour In Concert’?, il retrace les concerts de cette époque, 2001 et 2002 à Londres, une pure merveille !

Un plaisir de te lire, Patoch!

    I know, Fed, it’s not a forum, here, but…please…

    Michèle

  86. FYI — Johnny Winter (yes, he did record a double album waaaay back and yes, only three of the four sides were recorded) played at Clapton’s Crossroads Festival this summer. He played one song, Highway 61 Revisited, and sounded great! He’s rather frail and needed some assistance to a chair on the stage.

That’s all folks! Just doing a late-night scan through the blog and thought I’d toss that in.

I still haven’t found just the right time to give my ‘review’ of the dvd but, hey, what could I add that hasn’t already been said? It’s fantastic, isn’t it?

I think I’ll go slip that into the dvd player and go to sleep to David’s beautiful music …

    Peace my friends!
    Gabrielle

  87. I just finished watching Part One…

..and wow. This is so much like how I remember him in concert (Oakland, CA – April 2006).

This is a fantastic DVD of a fantastic concert. I had actually ordered this from the US, but decided to grab it today (I live in Sydney) as I couldn’t wait. I’ll have two copies!

I can’t wait to see and hear Echoes again. And the DVD Menus! What a brilliant idea – a work of genius, guys. Fantastic production values.

This blows any other music DVD I have out of the water. Brilliant.

[It’s not finally out in Australia, is it? You’re pulling my leg, right? Just kidding. – Features Editor]
