'Where We Start'

March 26, 2006: Auditorium Parco Della Musica, Rome.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED (06/06/07)

We have two winners this time. They are… Rob and Shannon.

Congratulations to you both. Please let us know where we should send your prize.

We haven’t had one of these ‘words’ contests in ages, so please grab your copy of ‘On An Island’ and have a listen to the final track, ‘Where We Start’.

Basically, we want to know the three words that first spring to mind as it’s playing.

For example, you could have: Blessed-Beauty-Breeze (they don’t have to start with the same letter, don’t worry).

If you happen to guess any of my three words, your name will be entered into a raffle. One winner will be selected completely at random and, yes, there is a prize.

If you happen to guess two, or even all three, of my words, then it’s only fair that your name should be entered into the raffle two or three times, giving you a greater chance of winning.

Only three words allowed – just one attempt each, please – and we’ll be announcing the winner on Wednesday, so please make sure that you get your three in by midnight Tuesday (UK time).

Once the comment form has gone, the competition is closed, so please don’t leave it until the last minute.

Good luck, everyone.

The chatroom is closed today, but will be open between 11AM and 1PM (UK) tomorrow.

Talk about timeless, magnetism, & romance…. anyway, those are my words! LOL

    Three words:

    Safety

  18. An aside from the word contest but ‘Where We Start’ is the only song I’ve ever ‘given’ to my good lady – after eighteen years together. “We step out sweetly, nothing planned …. Still far to go.”

  19. Sumptuous
    Floating
    Sailing

Best and most thoughtful ending for a classic album since DSOTM’s “Eclipse”

  20. One of my favorites on OAI.

  22. I have to tell you, it’s incredibly difficult to sum up my favorite song off of On An Island in only three words, but here’s what I could come up with:

    Utopia
    Perfection
    Beauty

  23. Melancholy
    Warmth
    Optimism

I cried the first half dozen times I heard it. I wished the album would never end.

  24. Love
    Memories
    Unity

Those are my words. I will be totally shocked if any of these words match yours. You seem to come up with words that are a bit more obscure. Geez, last time one person was able to guess one of your words. I sense you keep a thesaurus by your side. Which is fine, it is your game afterall.

    Thanks.

    Andrew

  25. luscious
    sumptuous
    smooth

Hi Fed. Are you sure it was The Who you went to see this last weekend and not the Zimmers? I just heard about them today. They sound like a hoot. Their youngest member is 90 and their oldest 100?

And everybody keeps worrying that David’s going to retire !

[They do sound like a hoot. – Features Editor]

  26. My 3 words:

    Kiss
    Affection
    Freedom

Yes…one KISS of love…a sweet AFFECTION…and eternal FREEDOM and HOPE.

Thanks for this topic, now this song is one of my favorites off the album…

    Great music…

  27. My three words are:

    Soothing
    Relax
    Comforting

Beautiful melody, enchanting lyrics, and charming vocals – I can’t ask for any more than that.

    Have a good one!

  28. Three words FEd,

    Peace
    Love
    Understanding

Not too much to ask is it?

    Gabrielle
    Washington State

  29. My three words are –

    Contentment
    Complete
    Beautiful

One my favorite tracks on the album.

    Nisha

  30. Here is my three. Cool, Driving and Forceful.

I hope eveyone had a nice weekend and can’t wait for some more teasers from the new DvD from David Gilmour, FEd.

    Take Care, Thomas

  31. Let’s try those ones…

    Peaceful Complicity Floating

    Sylvie de Montréal

  32. Just wanted to share with you that in New York City some city buses have adverts for the upcoming Live From Abbey Road series which will be shown in the states on the Sundance Channel starting later this month.

However, the artist images they show on the sign are the Goo Goo Dolls, Natasha Bedingfield and Norah Jones. I don’t know about you, but personally these are not three artists that would make me want to catch the series. There is one that would (wink) but I’m biased.

In any case, promoting the show is good and maybe there will be some new folks discovering the music of DG as the series progresses.

    Thanks.

    Andrew

[Thanks for letting us know, Andrew. – Features Editor]

  33. 3 little words

    Sentimental
    Eternal
    Remembrance

Can’t help but think this song has some dedication to the Rourkester !

  34. From the opening verse chords:

    G – Gorgeous
    Gm7 – Guitar
    Fm7 – Flows

  35. Romantic
    Relationships
    Relaxing

thank you very much indeed, good night to you

  36. This one is hard, I think of a lot of different things with this song. So I sat down and really listened to it again, just for this.

My words are: complete, bliss, commitment

    ~Erin

  37. I cant sum this up into 3 words but wanted to share with you what this song makes me think of. when you love someone so much you can’t get all the love out, there’s just so much you can’t express it. the 3 words only begin this thought.

    precious
    love
    eternity?

  38. Fed,

ty for all your great ideas to shorten our waiting time until the release of the DVD.

    – ebb and flow
    – floating
    – waves

  39. Escape Amble Natural

I hope David or shall we call him ‘Ray Mears’ put the fire out properly and cleared up afterwards 😉

  40. Saw the Who on Saturday; WOW! There are few if any groups around today (or ever) who can match them live. Class, power and enthusiasm, a mighty combination.

Apologies to anyone who has, or will also be using the following words. In keeping with my extremely poor attempt at Blotto, I have yet to match a single word with those chosen by FEd. Therefore with only the slightest of hope and even less expectation I try again.

    contentment
    relaxation
    tranquil

  41. Continuity
    Satisfaction
    Bliss

This is my favorite song from OAI and those three words come to mind when I listen to it.

However, I’m not going to participate in this competition since I already won once! And what an amazing thing to win!

FEd, the mailman delivered my prize today. Thank you so much! I will treasure this forever. I love it!

And of course a big THANK YOU to Guy for giving away his cool looking ‘My Bass And Other Animals’ and for the personal message in it!

Wow, I got an autographed copy of Guy’s book. I can’t believe it!! I’ll start reading it tonight!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    -ayako

[You’re more than welcome, mate. Glad you like it. – Features Editor]

  42. my three:

    Sedative
    Settled
    Timeless

I’m not english, hope u understand and that i spell right 🙂

  43. Romance
    Eternal
    Love

Wow, I haven’t been here for something like a year.

I just bought “About Face”. Wonderful! I can’t wait to learn guitar.

  44. Caption..

Whether it be rain or shine or incoming missiles..David will play on!

    Already posted my 3 words

  45. It seems to me that the song’s title already says it all, so…

    Where
    We
    Start

And what a perfectly formed piece of music it is, too! But, that’s part of David’s history, isn’t it?

    Cheers;
    Bill C.

  46. My three have to be;

    trusting,
    sharing,
    happiness.

    Cheers all.
    Adrian.

  47. i have done this without looking at anyone elses comments ( honest !) so if i repeat words used before it is only fluke !

    where we start:

    1: relaxed
    2: sleepy
    3: beautiful

  48. Congratulations to Rob and Shannon. You were the only ones to guess any of my words, so you can both be winners.

Please let us know where we should send your prizes by leaving your full name and address at the latest blog entry (they will not be published for all to see, don’t worry).

My three words were: Blessed, Beauty and Breeze – as set out in the above example.

This is the last of our ‘words’ contests. Thank you all for playing along. It’s been interesting to see which thoughts the ten ‘On An Island’ songs conjure up in your minds.

We hope it’s been interesting for you, too.
