UK Music Hall of Fame

wilson_blog.jpgIf you’ve been waiting patiently in the States, you can finally see David ushering legendary Beach Boy, Brian Wilson, into the UK Music Hall of Fame tonight. That’s VH1 at 9PM EST. Enjoy.

Don’t forget that the limited edition ‘On an Island’ CD (yes, the one with the bonus DVD) will be available in both real, and virtual, stores from Monday in Europe and Tuesday everywhere else.

Please be aware that the European version is not going to be available to order from David’s website, so you will need to look elsewhere for that. I apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.

As for the bonus DVD, then I’m happy to announce that, as a result of your blog comments, we can now deliver to India, Israel, Mexico and Serbia. You will see that these countries have now been added to the drop-down lists of our North America and UK & Europe order forms, so you should have no trouble ordering. If you do encounter any difficulties, however, please let me know.

Please remember that there is a strict limit of one DVD per customer and, if you order more than one, you might well end up with nothing at all. Please see the ‘Pre-order details’ post for a full explanation.

These DVDs are currently selling like hot cakes, so please don’t delay ordering if you only want the bonus DVD. Supplies are limited.

That’s all for another week. Whatever you do with your weekend, have fun with it (enjoy Guy’s show on Sunday, Teun and Tim).

  3. FED thanx so I guess it wasn’t possible to order from mexico.. Thank you I’ll order right now!

  4. Wait a minute, Mexico was already there…. and it keeps declining the card… I won’t order from the UK store it’s way too expensive!!! Sorry but it’s the truth… I wanted to buy because of the discounts but the UK store doesn’t have them…. too bad..

  5. Hello FEd,

A question out of the ordinary, and not related to the chapter subject.

I am trying to find The Album “Division Bell” on iTunes, and it seems not to be recognised! Do you know why or what it is I am doing wrong?

I would very much like to download it, or I will have to order it from HMV or any music store.

Many thanks and will try to be online when you next hold a chat.

But wednesday I am meeting a group about to appear on BBC World Next Big Thing, and organise to video them as their first ever Rock/Pop Video!!!

    Chat again soon FEd.

[You’d have to ask Pink Floyd’s management about that, I’m afraid. Great album, though. I’d personally get the CD for some fine artwork and all the lyrics. – Features Editor]

  6. Hi FEd,

Thanks for posting my entries for “This Heaven”, I appreciate being included, even if I didn’t win.
    Congratulations to Renee B (BTW).

Had a heavenly time cruising the Caribbean.

Finally caught up with all the intervening blogs…
Phew, there’s been a lot going on in my absence.

An extra trip to the record store is now called for (Arnold Layne), a great way to use those music voucher Crimbo pressies. OAI CD/DVD combo purchase beckons on Monday…

[No problem, Ken. Glad you enjoyed your cruise. – Features Editor]

  7. Gotta keep those lovin good vibrations
    A happenin
    Good good good good vibrations

What a great performance in Live 8 by Brian Wilson! Poets are the most celebrated in our times. Especially when they can add, steel strings with fingers to make them sing, Good good good good vibrations.

    Thank you, Happy Holidays!

  8. Hello, is there any chance that David is going to release a concert DVD of the tour of 2006 any time soon. I never got a chance to see him and i’m sure me along with many others would love to see a DVD of the this tour the past year.

    Thank You

[Yes, there will be a DVD out early next year. Have a browse through the past blog entries and you’ll see mention of it on every page. – Features Editor]

  9. Thanks very much F’ed.

I shall do my best ! Any other bloggers who see a distinguished looking chap in a blue DG t-shirt do come and say “HI” won’t you ? It may not be me but it might be the start of something wonderful anyway *grin*

  10. w00t!!

Thought I got home too late to see DG on VH1, it was a bit after 9:00, but I turned it on anyway, just in time to see David walk out on stage 🙂

Also got my Live and In Session DVD and 40% off shirt today.

    🙂 🙂 🙂 happyhappyhappyhappyhappy 🙂 🙂 🙂

  11. Hi FEd,

I finally got to see the UK Hall of Fame awards. And as always they both looked fabulous.

Now I’m just so completely psyched about the dvd this week. just in time for my b-day and anniversary on Saturday the 2nd.

Hope your weekend was a good one.

[Thanks, Penny. It was too short, as always, but very pleasant. – Features Editor]

  12. My husband and I can’t wait to receive the “On An Island” DVD which we have just ordered. Sadly, we won’t be able to see the show tonight since we don’t have cable; however, we do have a copy of the DVD “David Gilmour In Concert” with which it has a segment of David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason accepting the Music Hall of Fame Award in 2005 – our belated congrats!!!

  13. Happy Birthday, Ralph !

I hope you enjoy your CD/DVD gift !

    Toutes mes amitiés.

[Indeed. Hope you had a good day, Ralph. – Features Editor]

  14. I just got to the blog and read that the Hall of Fame show was on tonight and made it back into the house with one minute till kick-off! Phew! Thanks for the reminder Fed!

    (-:Tomi Sue:-)

  15. Thanks for putting India on the ship to list F.Ed, I ordered mine as soon as I found out. Also have an order confirmation so am hopeful that it will be in my hands soon.

Back from vacation and had a great time. Saw the outdoor amphitheater on the river bank from across the Taj Mahal and all I could think was that it would be a marvelous venue for David to play at…..

See you all in chat next week.

  16. Hope everyone had a great weekend. I did absolutely nothing productive and had a beautiful time doing it. I had a good long visit with my friends. We shared some good food and drink, and later we rolled the dice a bit,(thank god it was not for money), I would be so… financially embarrassed at the moment.

  17. Cool, I am SOOOO looking forward to this DVD… and looking forward to the Albert Hall DVD even more.

QUESTION: Which night at the Albert Hall is “Take A Breath” from on the “Live and In Session” DVD?

    [Pass. – Features Editor]

  18. Thanks for the heads up on the awards, my wife and enjoyed it.

David gave a very well thought out speech, it couldn’t have been put any better then that, you could tell he put his heart into it. The awkward moment when Brian rushed right by David forgetting his award, was a little funny. But we have to keep in mind the struggles similar to Syd’s that Brian still has. To be honest I am very surprised to see Brian out and about, it does show a lot about his character, I am realy proud of him.

The way the show was put together, was not well thought out, in fact, I just don’t know what they were thinking. They could have spent a little more time showing who was in the audience, the bits and pieces they did show were just flashes. I know the show is about the the individuals recieving awards, but it is also about the individuals there to honour them as well. I don’t know if I can put my finger on it, but there was something about the way they were filming the live performances as well. It just seemed,…I don’t know, maybe a little to hollywood style for me.

All in all, I enjoyed seeing it, and enjoyed seeing the great musical masters getting their place in the U.K. Hall of Fame.

  19. Good evening, FEd…

It´s a hot and rainy sunday afternoon here in São Paulo and I´m at the office…have a project to deliver next tuesday. Wish we could have the chat room opened today…it would make it pass much easier…

I was reading last night – again – Mason´s book, Inside Out, and in the last chapter he mentions that he, David and Rick worked on almost 40 “themes” for The Division Bell. So, there were a lot of left overs…I wonder if David used some of them – even if only partly – when developing On an Island…

By the way, I´ll buy my CD/DVD copy this week!

    Have a good night!

See you and our irregular friends next chat!

  20. Hope mine comes soon enough and comments also. Take a Breath at RAH, can’t wait.

I must say that the photo of the Hall is fantastic. Please include it somewhere on the OAI DVD. Perhaps front cover. It’s perfect!!

P.S. I would like to appoligise to the U.S. chat bloggers recently about our planned trip somewhere in the Carribeans. I mentioned an area that is taboo for them. We haven’t finalised yet, and I don’t want to rub salt on a wound. Sorry, sincerely.

  21. Just in from Guy’s stand-up in Islington and still grinning. An absolutely top evening – Guy is hysterical and I laughed from start to finish (and still). I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who is going next week so I can’t recount any of the funnies, but his recollections of meetings on his musical career had me amazed and amused.

The venue was also ideal…tiny, in-your-face, old/well loved, intimate. It didn’t matter where you were sitting it was like sitting in a large living room.

Guy – you’re a v. talented guy (ouch – unintended but i’ll leave it there anyway). I could listen to your tales for hours and hours, and for someone of my attention span, that’s really saying something. Thanks for a brilliant evening – please do it more!!

  22. Just caught the VH1 replay today (Sunday). Great to see David and Polly again, and I must say that Brian Wilson brought down the house! Great performance…

…and of course my wife’s favorite band, Bon Jovi, did alright….

(no comment, she’s looking over my shoulder)

    OUCH!! What?! I didn’t say anything?…..

  23. I recorded the 4th UK Music Hall of Fame, and I am so glad that I did. There were some brilliant shots of David and Polly. Both of them looked great! Polly is a very lovely woman, and I have to say, I was both pleased and refreshed, to see such a classy sense of style and beauty arrive at one of these “Red Carpet” affairs. Most of them are nothing more than magazine adds for outrageous hair styles, gobbs of makeup and ugly, shamelessly overpriced, clothing. Unfortunately, this imposing diplay tends to dominate this type of function.

As for David, BRAVO! He was spot on. He did a fine job with that speech. He’s a natural.

In addition to David being a good speaker, he looked really good. I must say he is one handsome man. My husband even commented how healthy and happy David looked.

I guess you might say, I enjoyed this show “very much indeed”. Thanks for the heads up, Fed.

  24. …you very lucky people…

    Dear F.Ed.

on the CD “On an island” there is a black label with the words: “David Gilmour:the voice and the guitar of Pink Floyd”(the same on the site too) well so i’d like to tell a couple of words about the voice, then.

This unmistakable and unfading voice, calm but powerful, soft but sometimes yelling or shrill but never rough, always perfect.

BTW, all people going to Milan can see an interesting exhibit titled “Brain Storm” c/o ARTEUTOPIA gallery

for the first time arrived in Italy the crazy creativity of Storm Thogerson, founder of Hipgnosis, the famous designer-artworks’ studio of the most important rock music groups in 60/70’s, and Pink Floyd ‘s most celebre and famous L/P covers

    up to december 23

    ciao Elisabetta

i agree with fed. definitely go for the cd, emmanuel.

i’m glad that all our american friends got to see the uk music hall of fame awards over the weekend. i said it before but i’ll say it again: david was on form. it was a lovely speech.

i also would like to wish a late happy birthday to ralph. 🙂

  26. Congrats to Renee!!!! Isn’t it FUN to win???

Be sure to let us know what your prize is!!!

  27. Happy Monday,

    Yes, nice one Renee.

Fed, you’re a tease, I heard the collective groan of everyone from here in Coventry.

Went to watch the footy yesterday. Now when I am with my footy mates we never normally talk about music as it bores most of them. Anyway, it was great to hear some of them asking me if I had heard that Arnold Layne was being re issued. That means that the publicity people are doing their job but also had me wondering if it will get to number 1.

    Pete – Coventry

  28. [Fed, you’re a tease, I heard the collective groan of everyone from here in Coventry. – Posted by: Peter at November 27, 2006 02:06 PM]

we should have expected it sooner or later.

you asked for it, fed. next time we’ll all give you your three words instead of thinking for ourselves and then nobody will win. or will you get the prize if that happens?

[I think that’s only fair, don’t you? – Features Editor]

  29. Hi bloggers and Fea. Ed.

Yay I saw DG on UK Hall of Fame last night, looking handsome as ever I might add. Loved the comment about teaching groupies chess. Poor groupies. Anyway, yeah that was fun.

Congrats to Renee B for winning the latest contest. Wish I could win, but then again I don’t enter them as there doesn’t seem to be much point.

    Love to all DG fans!

    Elizabeth in the USA

[If there’s no point in entering, why whine about not winning? – Features Editor]

  30. What is interesting is that in the contest before this one last one, I hinted that wouldn’t it be funny if the 3 words that FEd used as examples were the actual 3 words. Then low and behold, he does that for the next contest. What a sneaky FEd. And now, FEd will just keep us guessing.

  31. Can’t find the link for *just* the DVD on the webstore… I already own the CD… Can you “Point Me At The Sky”?

[I’m afraid these went on sale two weeks ago. Our limited supply has now gone. – Features Editor]

  32. [You’d have to ask Pink Floyd’s management about that, I’m afraid. Great album, though. I’d personally get the CD for some fine artwork and all the lyrics. – Features Editor]

I would agree with you on the fine art work and lyrics, actually i have many on vinyl and then doubled in CDs, will have to feel lucky when next visiting a London Music Store, as it seems hard over here to find that one.

Anyhow, many thanks for your input FEd

  33. I may not have won any prizes for a while, but heck that doesn’t stop me winning at life.

It’s lunch time. I’ve nipped out from work to pop down to the bank. There is a spring in my step. I can’t help smiling at the cashier as I hand her my debt card and a pay in slip to make a payment.

    ‘It’s a lovely day,’ I say.

She smiles in return and checks the details.

‘Er,’ she says, ‘you’re paying in more than you owe.’

    ‘That’s right.’

    She looks at me quizzically.

‘Don’t you want to just pay the amount outstanding on your card?’

I can’t keep the grin off my face.

‘No, I’d like to pay a little more.’

A few moments later I wandered out into the warm sunshine of Bournemouth and headed to Asda for some lunch.

That was my last debt paid off. I owe not a penny to anyone and I now have a credit card, not a debt card. The Bank owes ME money. And that’s how it’s damn well going to stay from now on.

Not only that, but I’ve got 2 DG DVDs in the post, heh heh.

[Good for you, George. – Features Editor]

  34. i’m pleased for you, george. nice one.

i’m not pleased for those who missed out on buying just the dvd, but it has been on sale for a while now and we were given plenty of warning.

  35. CAPTION: ” Smiles all round ”

Rgds Geoff Duffy ( Dublin )

Some may ask why David was chosen to give Brian his award , well I say who knows more about someone than God himself.

As Brian says himself ” GOD ONLY KNOWS”
