Guy answers your questions

guy03_blog.jpg

Guy has kindly answered many of the questions you sent in, and they’ll be here over the next few days… Starting today with some questions about taking ‘On an Island’ on the road.

Thanks to those who submitted the following five.

That’s all for yet another week, unfortunately.

There’s much more to come from Guy next week, as well as more chats, the last of the mystery shoes (so get the tissues ready if you didn’t get them ready the last time I told you to), as well as details of a brilliant competition for the ladies.

Don’t ask, ’cause I ain’t telling. It wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you, would it?

I’ll also reveal what you chose as your favourite of Polly’s photographs.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Which was your favourite venue/gig during the ‘On an Island’ tour? (KenF)

All of them. Although Gdańsk was a bit special… As was Venice.

What were the stand-out moments from the ‘On an Island’ tour? (Victor)

It was one big stand-out moment. I really can’t express just how great it was, the combination of friends, family, great crew, great music, lovely venues and great audiences.

Did the rest of the band have any input to the set list for the ‘On an Island’ tour or did David decide? (Andy)

We were asked for suggestions, but then basically ignored.

On the Summer Tour 2006, David took the train from Linz to Munich. Did you and the other band members also travel by train? (Werner)

We did, and were none too happy when we found out that our six-hour two-train journey only took two hours by road…

Where can I get me a ‘Didn’t They Do Well?’ T-shirt?! (Julie Gunn Davies)

Savage London on Portobello Road knocked them up for me.

How can you sum up the ‘On an Island’ Tour journey? (Patoch’)

Too short.

  1. [Did the rest of the band have any input to the set list for the ‘On An Island’ tour or did David decide? (Andy) – We were asked for suggestions but then basically ignored…]

Great answers Guy. But of course the follow-up to the one above would have been: So what songs did you suggest?

No, I am not the Andy who asked the original question.

Looking forward to more of the Blog Interview with Guy.

    Thanks.

    Andrew

  2. “a brilliant competition for the ladies”

We are real ladies you know… make no mistake, Florence and I are real ladies, and definitely not a couple of rubbish transvestites…

    I thankew! 😉

  3. [We were asked for suggestions but then basically ignored…]

I’m pretty sure Guy’s displaying his keen sense of rumour once again… 🙂

  4. Hats of to Guy…

Not many people would maintain a contact with the buffs/fans as Guy does… what a job and lifestyle he has and what a normal bloke he is!

I am so looking forward to his one-man show and the book next year… NEXT YEAR, GUY! OK 🙂

  5. A competition just for the ladies huh?! I LOVE THAT! Very exciting indeed!

It’s good to hear that the OAI tour was as special to you as it was to all of us, Guy. Thanks for taking the time to do this. See you again next year when your show makes it to the states.

  6. Where else can you actually have a dialouge with members of your favorite band?

    Thanks, Guy!

  7. PS – Can you at least say who’s idea this ladies competition was? Now that our panties are in a bunch, lol

thanks for answering my question, guy! 🙂

it was a bit stupid of me to expect you to be able to pick out stand-out moments from such a brilliant tour. i’m glad that you enjoyed it as much as the fans did.

  9. [Entirely Polly’s and that’s all I’m saying. – Features Editor]

    Does it involve pho-tog-raph-y

    *nudge, nudge*

    SAY NO MORE!

  10. Guy

Whats the red jazz bass, a fretless? Looks like a Lakeland. Did you switch to that one from the status for a passive sound?

I’m really looking forward to a comedy tour in the US.

    Have a great weekend F*Ed 🙂

  13. “…details of a brilliant competition for the ladies.”

I just wonder if I qualify as a lady. ?

Ha ha, Guy! Why spend two hours in the car when you can spend six on the train?

Also, if the OIA tour was too short, roll out the tour machine and take it for another spin!

    Becky

  14. Nice answers.

We should make some shirts of those for everybody, they would sell well. I want one! 😉

  15. [Entirely Polly’s and that’s all I’m saying. – Features Editor]

That’s all I asked! Alright Polly! A toast to the ladies! I’m glad it was her idea. When guys try and think up competitions for women . .well lets just say their intentions are different. I’m sure since it is Polly’s idea and on this fabulous website, that it will be fantastic. Can’t wait!

  16. Heheheh great to see the Bloggers having so much fun and thanks Fed and Guy and Polly and David and everyone else for making this such a special place 8)

  18. Angelo,

Are your panties in a bunch too regarding the ladies competition…LOL

Sorry couldn’t resist, but you have to be a blog irregular to get that one.

    Andrew

  19. It looks as if you have fixed it again Fed, For the blog is up and running. I just hope you didn’t have to do a all nighter. It looks as if next week is going to be a wild one, Can’t wait. So I hope you and everyone on the blog has a good weekend.

    Take Care,
    Thomas

  20. I am very curious as to the answers to the last competition. I figured one answer was haunting but I would like to know all 3 of Feds words.

    Thanks

  21. Thanks for the responses Guy! I was a coward and didn’t post any questions, not to mention some of the ones I thought of would have been repeats, so thanks to all of my friends who did ask. I look forward to the rest of them.

Fed, I am curious about the tissues. Are you gonna make us cry or something. Let me know and I will wear waterproof mascarra. Is it the ladies competition that the tissues are for???? Oh, what suspense!!! Now we will wish our weekend away.

  22. Well it is definetly going to be a long weekend. I can’t wait to hear what the competition is going to be for the ladies. If it is Polly’s idea I am sure it is going to be freakin’ awesome

Have a great weekend to everyone and Fed

  23. What a treat! Thank you, Guy! You are an incredible musician and a great guy.

My appreciation to Rudders as well for an earlier mention of David’s solo on Supertramp’s Brother Where You Bound. Just got it, and it’s great stuff.

Have an amazing weekend, F.Ed. and all.

  24. [How can you sum up the ‘On An Island’ Tour journey? (Patoch’) – Too short.]

What a cool answer! I’ll be hope that David thinks in the same way 😉

  25. Caption..Boop..Bang..Bong..”Try and match that Guilly”

    Sorry Guy..all in fun.

Would David be offended to being addressed as Guilly F.E.?

Ladies only event eh?..I’ve heard about what goes on at these soirees..Better stick close Polly!

  26. Guy thinks the tour was too short – Amen to that. I wonder what David thinks ?

Looking forward to the next installment ….

  27. hello. my name is gaston and im from Cordoba Argentina. i just want to know if david is coming to (or planing to come) to argentina because is my biggest dream.

    thanks from cordoba
    Gaston

[I’m afraid there are no plans for shows anywhere in the world at this time, Gaston. If such plans are made, the details will be splashed all over davidgilmour.com. – Features Editor]

  28. Now that we are one big family again, what a month I must say, Halloween around the the corner and all. Whew, thanks Guy, you are special indeed.

  29. Good luck ladies, not laddies. We are not allowed. Interesting to see who wins.

So glad to be here again, hope it never ends.

  30. Hmmm … I just returned from a ‘ladies’ day to the big (sort of) city to acquire some maternity clothes for my baby girl (even at 26) and some adorable tiny clothes for her up-coming baby and what do I find? “A brilliant competition for the ladies”, “entirely Polly’s” idea, details to follow next week!!!

Let’s see, am I intrigued? Do you have my full attention? Am I becoming a little light-headed? Shall I drag over the fainting couch, get out the smelling salts? I feel that I speak for a number of Irregular women (so to speak) from all over the world when I say “let the games begin”!!

Guy, thanks for being such a sport and taking on the likes of us! Rudders has it right … not many people in your position (sitting, standing?) would take the time to be grilled by such a motley crew, not to mention that, for better or worse, you’ve become one of ‘us’, a real Irregular!! I’m looking forward to some juicy tidbits next week. Have a couple pints before you post your answers, maybe loosen you up a bit, eh?

I’ll be setting my alarm clock for 6 a.m. on the 31st, so I hope to be chatting with a bunch of you then, especially the ladies. Who knows what we’ll have to blather on about by then? The hens may be restless!

Peace and love to you all!

  31. nice to see guy also felt the tour was too short…hey david, its time to gig another one….

  32. Hey, Guy answered one of my questions too…

    Didn’t he do well.

    Thanks for being specific, Guy.

It must have been hard choosing from all the great venues where the OAI tour visited.

  33. FE’d…

I feel just like a kid in a candy store. Seriously can’t believe that I really won!!!!

Thank you thank you thank everyone that makes this sort of thing possible.

Please send my prize to: […]

    Thank you so much again.

    Happy weekend to you all,

[Well done, Jan. Your prize will be in the post this week. – Features Editor]

  34. Hey Fed,

I was just wondering if the UK observes daylight savings time. I know that certain parts of the world don’t, and just wanted to see. I gotta make sure I get to the chats on time, yah know? So are we (US west coasters) still 8 hours behind, or is it now 9?

    Thanks

    ~Erin

[Our clocks went back last night, so wouldn’t it now be seven hours? I don’t do ‘thinking’ on a Sunday, sorry. – Features Editor]

  35. Hi Guy,

Did you remember me? I meet you in Milan, in march, after the second show outside the hotel, we discussed just a minute about my bass (Music man stingray, colour natural…).

Thank’s for you time….I’m looking forward to see you again in Italy, alone or with others.

    Stefano
(….from a little village near Como Lake)

  36. i just wanted to say that guy is clearly a funny guy and so you shouldn’t take his answers too seriously. just because he said that the tour was too short doesn’t mean that he’s having a go at david. i know that’s very obvious to most people, but some people do get the wrong end of the stick quite a lot. just look at some of the things fed has said that have been taken out of context and needed explaining.

so i just thought i’d try to helpful to anyone who doesn’t get the british sense of humour.

[Well said, mate. You’d better be prepared to take some of his other answers with a pinch of salt. – Features Editor]

  37. Hmmmmmmm. Sumpthin is missing.
    Melissa (*_-)

By the way Fed I am sad about the end of the shoe photos. It would look nice to have some b&W prints to frame as a set. Very Artsy Fartsy, as we say in THE SOUTH.

[Missing because I didn’t think it suitable, not because you’re on the right track. – Features Editor]

  38. It’s so wonderful that Guy is taking the time to answer our questions! Thank you so much, Guy!

Congratulations to Jan and Rudders! Way to go!

I laughed out loud at so many entries up above and wanted to quote the jokes and respond to them….but there were way too many! You guys are a riot!

The time thing always mystifies me a little, but if the UK turned their clocks back, and the US also turned their clocks back…the time difference should remain the same, right? Unless you had one too many of Geoff’s Guinnesses and turned the clock back more than one hour….? Any mathematicians in the house? Have fun, everybody!

[Pardon my ignorance, Jan. If you also turned your clocks back, then we’re the same as before. – Features Editor]

  39. [Our clocks went back last night, so wouldn’t it now be seven hours? I don’t do ‘thinking’ on a Sunday, sorry. – Features Editor]

Our clocks went back too, so we should still be 8 hrs behind. I don’t do thinking on Sundays either, far too much of that during the week as it is.

  40. Heh, Angelo’s trying to innoculate himself with extra testosterone in order to combat the flood of estrogen from the Ladies of the Gilmour Blog. Don’t fight it, Angelo! See, we lucky ladies are able to appreciate David and his many talents on SO many more levels than you men, and it’s quite nice.

  44. Andrew, “you slay me….” *said in lispy voice*

LOL! Hey, if I’m wearing panties do I qualify for the competion?

No? Oh well…at least their more comfy than boxers….

    (where’s that testosterone syringe?……)

  45. Fresh idea to have a ladies only competition. I was just wondering: Is it OK if we watch?

[I think it would be rude not to. – Features Editor]

  46. as the tickets for the armadillo had all gone by the time I got on the phone, I guess the crowd singing at the radio city music hall makes that a gig I wished I’d been there for

    Hi Fed

Looking after the Blog and the Chat room and keeping them safe for general viewing isn’t being nasty, it’s called having the strength and courage to do what’s right.

Damn good job you do here and one for which the vast majority of us have the deepest respect for.

    Regards

[Bless you. I personally think the world’s gone soft – and not just because of global warming, either. It seems that very few people can take a rollicking anymore without whining about it. I banned someone from the chatroom recently and have since been likened to Stalin, Hitler and Mussolini. Maybe I should dress up as a brutal dictator for Halowe’en. What do you think? – Features Editor]

  49. […maybe I should dress up as a brutal dictator for Halowe’en. What do you think? – Features Editor]

    As you wish, mein Meister…

  50. Hmmm…debate on daylight savings time. All I will add is that there are certain areas that do not observe the turning back of the clocks. I believe Puerto Rico is one. So although the time difference between the U.K. and the U.S. is still consistent, there will be other areas that may not be.

    Confused yet??

    Andrew

[The very concept of turning them back confuses me. – Features Editor]

what angelo said. but it’s gotta be adolf. that side parting…
