Five words

bray017_blog.jpg

Some of the things that you lot have written lately have been hilarious. Thank you very much. I’m glad to see that the clouds are lifting.

The latest suggestion for a rainy day blog comes from Sharon from the East Coast of the US:

Give five words that ‘On An Island’ puts you in mind of. Words only, no sentences. For example, healing, depth, contentment…

So there you go. Work yourselves into a frenzy with that one.

There’s a prize for the first person to suggest the word that I’m thinking of.

Today’s picture, taken by Polly, is of Jon Carin rehearsing for the UK shows.

I think we’ll make you wait until tomorrow for some more information on the DVD. Think you can wait that long?

  2. CAPTION: Don’t make me angry Mr Magee , you wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.

Jon tries out for the roll of the Hulk in a new tv adaptation.

  4. [You can wear it. – Features Editor]

Is it a pair of OAI underpants Fed?

    My guess is contentment

[Although I’m sure that anyone would be absolutely brimming with contentment if they owned a pair of ‘On An Island’ underpants, I’m afraid it’s not that. It’s a T-shirt, but not one that you can buy. You can have four more guesses if you want, James. – Features Editor]

  5. Solitude
    Peace
    Commitment
    Treasure
    Reflection

Think I will put on OAL since I cant go on Vacation

  6. Nature

  7. 1.Sparkling
    2.Cooling
    3.Shimmering
    4.Glistening

    (All watery words!!)

And finally, the best word “On An Island” brings to mind, the word that makes me feel happy when I think of it, because it is the reason that in 2006, such great music still exists…

    5.*GILMOUR*

    🙂

  8. Longing ; Relief ; Thankfulness ; Forgiveness.

Well thats my entry, any luck?

[I’m afraid not. – Features Editor]

  9. I bet Ian, Mr. Glassman, will be the one to guess the word.

As for OAI underpants. What a thought. That would be a page from the Gene Simmons (KISS) marketing book. Just the thougth of David and Gene collaborating on marketing – OAI action figures, OAI pinball machine, OAI coffin, OAI condoms. Lets all hope that pairing never happens. (But maybe RW would be interested in a meeting with Gene. LOL) I know FEd, that was evil.

  10. Such a great album, best I’ve heard in years.

Surreal, Marooned, Relaxed, Flowing, and Psychedelic

I love the throwbacks to Division Bell, and all the little pieces you can pick out each time you listen to it. It’s been over 2 months since I saw David but I’m still excited about that night when I think of it. Oh yea, It’s definitely a psychedelic album too. I was gonna say bad ass, but that would be 2 words wouldn’t it?

  11. Phew – England scramble home. I don’t think the world is quaking just yet.

    5 words –

    Bliss
    Contentment
    Mellow

Will it be free to pensioners?

  23. Five words:

    Calm
    Happy

    4. Peaceful
    5. Contentment

  27. Harmony
    Contemplation
    Meditative
    Restive
    Serenity

I cannot imagine any of these words on a T-shirt or on someone’s underpants, so I probably have not got the right word. I’ll harmoniously contemplate that in restive serenity.

  28. Mature
    Real
    Natural
    Sweet
    Love

But maybe not in that order. The order changes each listening, but those are the words that continue to pop up when I am describing the work to friends.

Tom (it’s gonna be a huundred degrees Fahrenheit here in Los Angeles this weekend, when I think of English Summers, I always remember Spike Milligan’s line from an old Goon Show ‘It was a typical early summers evening in Britain, the rain was lovely and warm…’ I’ll slab some extra sun screen on for you guys while I’m roasting at the beach!)

  29. 1. Defiant (Could have just touted the old stuff but didn’t)
    2. Agglomerate (Pretty much how the album came together)
    3. Valedictory (Hope not!)
    4. Introspective (Definitely)
    5. Demure (Describes DG perfectly)

  30. Pinot (Noir Paul Hobbs 2003)
Sorgente (a Villa near Sarteano, on the patio preferably)
    Tuscany
    Vinyl (copy of OAI)
    Signals (Super Fi stereo sytem)

Now, the only one of those I can afford is the LP, so that will have to do.

  31. Thank you for the Smile cover 🙂 (You know who you are)

You really are a wonderful bunch of people who deserve the best of everything 🙂

We arrived in Barbados today for the family graduation trip – rough gig, I know. The very lovely hotel has wireless throughout so what am I doing? – sitting on the veranda checking the blog. Pathetic, but there you go. But really, what else are you supposed to do when you are waiting (interminably!) for your teenage daughter to finish getting ready for dinner? And … I’m really on an island.

  35. Smile.Shameless.Stones.Blue.Souls.

Incidently Fed shouldnt you now be called “Bed” this being a “Blgg” and not “Features”?

Delayed reaction – Yesterday received my “Smile” single after long delivery. First time I have heard the “Jam” track in its entirity. First reaction is that it reminds me of the Moddy Blues ( I like), it is quiet and seems right hand based with guitar.

Dont understand this footie lark. I mean how come England beat two countries at once, Trinidad AND Tobago. Wouldnt it be fairer if it was England AND Scotland who were playing on same side?

  65. Ciao folks,

yesterday’s topic influenced me too much that I actually had to prove my suggestion for a film. So at home, at night, I took my copy of Walt Disney’s Fantasia and listened to it with OAI. Though it was not synchronized, it was incidentally sometimes. And the experience was so good!!!! I suggest to anyone to do it. The Ever flowing images are perfect with the music. wooow.

And Enrico yesterday made the best suggestion of all (but every suggestion was insteresting folks :-): “Mediterraneo”. Which gives me the possibility to tell some things you could find interesting. Most of you already know them.

“Mediterraneo” is an Italian film directed by Gabriele Salvatores and it won the OSCAR prize as best foreign film in 1992. Many Italians love it as they find in this film much of their spirit. The story is basically this: a little group of italian soldiers during WWII are sent in this greek island to “control” it and defend from the enemy. But they find the Island deserted, no enemy, no people. They adapt to settle there. After a bit they live there, they discover greek people were there, hiding somewhere on the Island. They forget to be soldiers (Italians don’t like to shoot) and they become friends of these people. And then….watch it!! Italians like it because we feel close in spirit to those soldiers who actually hate war and want a human contact, a friendship.

the Island where the film is shot is ….Castellorizo!!..in Italian is Castelrosso and in gereek is also Meyisti. So you have two reasons to see the movie: first is a good movie and funny(it is a comedy), second you can see very well the island that inspired David.

    Now ITALIAN LESSON NUMBER 3

    Liquido (liquid)
